This gets a "No duh"

The way the league is structured right now they make money hand over fist regardless if the team is successful or not.

“There’s no way that I’m going to sell that team. Ever. I value the Pelicans as much as I do the Saints.” — Owner Gayle Benson on reports that the Pelicans are a candidate to move to Seattle or another market in the future.

Zero equivocation, but writers will still try to send Pels to Seattle.

Gayle Benson also reiterated that Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis will focus exclusively on the Saints going forward. The new Pelicans GM will oversee basketball operations and report directly to Benson.

Gayle Benson said the outside consultant that the club is using to run the Pelicans GM search has recommended 5-6 candidates who the club will consider for the open position. She said she and Dennis Lauscha will make the hire, with consultation from Mickey Loomis.

Well, for one the Pels wouldnt even be in La anymore if she didnt talk Tom into buying them..

They built a new practice facility, and every year add more to the team..

And that is ok I guess if it is the right person. It can work, Morey is the GM/POBO. Masai was in Toronto until they changed the structure a bit.

There's more than one way to skin a cat. I prefer President and GM structure but this is fine, its all about who they hire.

And this is all good news. We needed this after radio silence for weeks.

The Pelicans and the NBA are a goldmine. She needs a good GM that can bring in talent that makes the playoffs most years. I would not sell either. Just need a good GM like the Saints

And what would be her motivation to sell anyway? She's 70 with no heirs and already has more money than she can spend. I think leaving a legacy of making this team successful in NOLA for the long term is more important to her than anything else.

Right. Who they hire and what type of runway they give that person to build out the organization.

Spending on front office/coaching/training is uncapped. I would imagine the Pelicans have one of the smaller organizational briantrusts/supports in the league.

They don't have Ballmer $$ to spend on that side, but I would hope they can expand there some.
