I’m so pumped for the win last night. I stayed up and watch the the entire game. I was happy with officiating over the two games. They were letting them play and that definitely benefited us. Last night it was clear we got the lions share of 50/50 calls.

Looking ahead to the next two games I can’t imagine that we can expect the officiating to stay the same. Regardless, I have the Pels in 4! Break out the brooms!

Agreed. I was surprised at how much the refs were letting them play. Hopefully our own home crew doesn’t frick us.

Playoff basketball. They normally stop calling as much ticky tack shite.

I think they let Portland get chippy with AD in the 2nd half and star players usually get that cleaned up. It eventually came but they got away with it for a chunk of the 4th and aided their run.

Otherwise officiating aside seemed like a clean game

AD still gets held and hand checked way too much but that's been happening all year long

I agree with what you said except I did not like the fact that they let the players pushoff to create shots. I feel that the refs should have cleaned that up early and we were on the wrong end of those calls when they were made.

Edit: But I definitely liked the fact that they let them play and the refs didn't unnecessarily slowdown the game.

I know we shot more free throws, and had less fouls, but the refs without a doubt let Portland play rough against us without calling fouls, which i am perfectly fine with, but called a few ticky tack fouls on us.

If you're not going to call a foul when someone hacks AD on a shot, then don't call a foul when someone puts their hand on the back of McCollum as he drives to the goal seemingly unaffected by it.

As a whole, I thought we got a lot of the calls last night. They had some crappy ones like Clark’s (?) continuation not called, then Lillard/McCollum getting it called on the other side, but overall we got a lot of the balls going out of bounds which made up for those.

in my opinion both games were well-officiated within reasonable expectations and no advantage was offered to either team because of it

frankly, i'm shocked that the pels got as many out-of-bounds calls as they did last nite...that arena was LOUD

Officials do not like to lead games. The concept is anathema...akin to determining outcomes, which for them undermines the integrity of the sport and their role in it. Referees want to follow the action, to react appropriately as the players lead. A preponderance of calls—missed or made—towards one team generally means that team is showing the officials what they need to see while the other is not doing so as successfully. The refs want somebody to lead; the only question is, who’s going to do it?

New Orleans has earned more foul shots in this series—and generally more credit during questionable situations—because they have been the aggressors, plain and simple. When they’ve gone to the rack, they’ve dunked the ball with authority or gotten as close as humanly possible. Perceiving the shadow of Anthony Davis like a circling hawk around the bucket, Portland’s guards (their main foul-drawers) have shied away from the rim, either passing or trying tricky reverse layups and double-clutches. That approach may be justified; Davis is a great player and plenty intimidating. But those two approaches do not look the same to observers or officials.

Portland attacked us in the paint last night, but they didn't get foul calls

Why? it was clear easy layups or broken down defense most of the time.

But Holiday, AD, and Rondo consistently attacked the rim. The only issue is, you gotta call fouls when a guy shoves AD mid-air. That's not a tick-tack foul.
