EJ will just use this year as a redshirt , I think the pels Will take care of him and EJ will be a really solid NBA player down the road . Idk how much he would have actually contributed this year , but looking forward to him in a pels jersey in the near future

The chances they missed an ACL tear and allowed him to come back in the game is slim to none.

Yea, EJ himself would know if he tore his ACL on the first play that is something you know pretty fast

Does Liddel qualify for the disabled player exemption?

All of this. He already has more potential than the other bubble guys.

ETA: aren’t we only one over the limit? The Croatian guy isn’t going to be on the roster - that just leaves getting rid of one of Naji/Graham/Temple

No, you have to be under contract when the injury occurs. It also would give the team no functional benefit in this situation if he had been under contract because it doesn't impact roster spots.

Honestly, this may have solved the issue for the Pels. They can put EJ on a 2-way (he doesn’t really have bargaining power now), and then just convert it to a real contract before the last game of the season (while cutting Temple).

Could be the best of both worlds, Temple gets to stay around the team for the whole season, and just gets cut at the end when he can’t really think he’s getting kept on for the third year anyway, we get to see how EJ’s rehab is going, and make a decision to sign him to a real deal.

ETA: while on a 2-way he can still rehab with our medical team, and the team can even “call him up” for the 45 days so that he can get maximum earning potential while still not playing.

Do 2 way contracts play into the salary cap in any way?

No. 2 ways don’t count on the cap.

They aren’t counted toward the salary cap at all.

I really think he tore it the first time on the alley opp attempt . I watched him when he came back in and he didn’t seem to be moving like he normally
Does . Then it just gave out on a pretty normal basketball play

... that is exactly how this type of injury happens ...

He tore on the first time in the alley oop

and then the second >>> well, his whole leg was unstable from the first

He could have been kicking a pile of leaves and he would have had the same exact results ...

I truly hope he recovers successfully...

No way. You can’t pass a stability test with a torn acl . If he went to the locker room after the first time , they would do a stability test on the knee and never let him in if it was even the least bit unstable

... granted , sure but a torn acl is a tricky thing sometimes it sneaks up on you.

I hate it for the kid but it’s not the end of the world for him or the Pels. They will do the right thing I’m sure and give him a 2 way deal this year and have him rehab under their supervision and then get him back in the gym slowly by next spring. He was highly unlikely to really factor into this season’s rotation anyway so it doesn’t mess with the team’s expectations but you would have liked him healthy to get that playing time this year so he might be ready to contribute in year two. Now he’s just a year behind. He will basically be another draft pick next year that’s had the benefit of being around the pro game for a year. He’s young, in 9 months time he will be back in the gym. Wish him a speedy recovery. I guess the roster is pretty much set now.
CJ
Herb
BI
Zion
Jonas
Bench: Trey, Jose, Nance, Jaxon, Graham
Last 5: Daniels, Billy, Naji, Kira and Temple
EJ rehabs and Matkovic’ plays the year overseas. Still a damn tough squad right there.

They changed that rule. Two-way guys now get paid the same whether they are with the G-League team or the NBA team.

I see that. Now it appears that they are limited to 50 games played. So they can sign him to a 2 way, and he can still rehab with the team, travel with the team, sit on the bench, etc… while getting paid 500k. Clearly not what he was wanting but he’s going to contribute nothing for this entire season, I think that’s ultimately what’s going to happen.

I think it will work out in the end, but it still sucks big time.
