Kira Lewis is a really fast PG from Alabama. Here's a profile from NBA.com
LINK #/

He's really good in the P&R
quote:

Ranked 9th in the NCAA and 1st in the SEC in points created by passes out of the pick and roll (10 ppg)
Ranked 3rd in the SEC in transition scoring (5.1 ppg)
Ranked 5th in the SEC in pick and roll scoring (4.9 ppg)

Here's a highlight vid/draft profile. You can really see how his speed lets him get into the lane with ease.

Finding a lead guard seems like the next hurdle we need to overcome in building around Zion. Lewis' ability to penetrate and create out of the P&R has me intrigued.

However, weighing only 165 pounds can he get strong enough to be a starting NBA guard, or is he destined to be a backup? When I think back to some of the worst defenders we've had I think of guys like Brian Roberts, Instant Grits, Frank Jackson. They weren't too slow or not trying, most of the time it looked like they were escorting their man to the basket, always in front but never stopping them. I've always felt it was because they weren't strong enough to stand their ground at the point of attack.

Not worried about his defense. He’s a good defenders and like Fox, he’ll gain strength and weight as he ages. If he’s there at 13, he’s about as an ideal pick as you can get.

Not enough people talk to his body control to go along with that speed. Has an amazing knack for going around defenders in the air.

The only thing I want to see from him is the ability to change speeds and tempo. Going 100mph is not always ideal and can get you figured out fast.

Here’s my evaluation:

Kira Lewis Strengths:
-Lightening quick, very good first step. One of the quickest players in recent years.

-Attacker offensively, does a good job getting to the rim, but only an average finisher (more on that later)

-Very good off ball. Moves well, understands how to make himself available. 85th percentile as spot up shooter.

-Good shooter off dribble. Can go either direction.

-Lacks elite court vision, but good enough that he’s a threat to score or facilitate with his attacking style.

-Very good ball handler in the PnR. Can score from all three levels or dish.

-Good on ball defender, quick laterally, technically sound.

-Good team defender and off ball defender, but tends to get caught ball watching.

Weaknesses:
-Plays to fast at times, needs to learn to be more patient.

-Only 165 lbs. Lack of strength hampers him. Ex: Finishing and ability to switch defensively.

-Lightning quick but not necessarily explosive. Doesn’t finish over people.

He's now my favorite choice of the realistic options at 13.

His speed and quickness in the P&R with Zion and BI could be unstoppable. We need another creator to pair with BI for the future and it would ideally be a lead guard type.

Wasn’t he like 17 playing as a freshman. He should be 19 now, this guy is steady growing on me

Same. His measurements coming out of college are almost identical to Fox so I have optimism that he will be able to handle his own on defense. Offensively I love how much pressure he can put on the defense with the ball in his hands, but his good off ball game is key too playing next to Zion and BI.

Unless Vassell or Killian somehow fall to our range, I'm all aboard the Kira train.
