Do yall think Smith and Withey will be the top 2 centers on the pelisqaud on opening night?

If so, what % do you think Withey gets the nod over Smith to start at the 5? Withey is listed as 7'0'' 235 lbs, but I assume he'll probably put on 5 or so pounds of muscle this summer.

If it's Smith, do you think he plays typical starter minutes, or would it be a pretty even split between him and withey (and of course throw in a few mins of AD at 5)?

Not no, but frick no. It'll be some form of Davis/Smith or Anderson/Davis IMO. He may get good mop up duty but start? I can't see it happening at all.

Pretty close to zero, at least initially.

2nd Rounders very rarely start at all, let alone right off the bat. If he's starting early on, we are either fricked or he's just been amazing out the gate.

Absolutely zero. Rookies always have problems with NBA defense. Even Davis struggled with defense early. Smith or Davis will start if we don't sign or trade for someone else.

Sure if the two people ahead of him break their foot the night before the game, but then again, AD23 would start at center and Ryan Anderson would start at four so i'm back to No.

I certainly don't expect Withey to be that great from the start, but I could definitely see him eventually being a better fit at starting than Smiht. Smiht seems to thrive off of being the energy guy coming off the bench.

FYI, Withey was named co-defensive player of the year this past season, sharing the award with Olidipo.

Back up center for 15 mpg... Unless we got the steal of the century which we did not.

Not much. But I don't think its as out of the question as some are making it. Not because of anything Withey might do, but because if he's not starting, who is?

As of right now the only other option is Smith. I think there's less of a chance Davis or Anderson open up the season as our starting center than Withey. And Withey opening games doesn't mean he'll actually get starter minutes. Just come out there play 15-20 minutes, decent defense and use some fouls.

And i'm glad they aren't trying to force Davis into the center position. I don't understand people's fascination with that.

I sure hope so.

I love picking up Withey, but I don't see him as an answer in the short term. I could see him ending up being a quicker, better version of Aaron Gray.

Agreed. Let's see another year or two of development before moving him to C.

Go look up what people were saying about Rivers and Roberts in November/December vs February/March. He definitely has no prayer to start the season. The team is in Win Now mode and has to bring in another big so I really wouldn't expect much out of him until next year. Being older could make a difference but he probably won't get much game time this season unless there is an injury.

You really think Monty would start Withey over Smith?

As of now, the opening day lineup is

Holiday
Gordon
Aminu
Davis
Smith

Evans will be first off the bench to replace either Aminu or Gordon. Ryno will be next to replace Davis. Then MAYBE Withey. MAYBE.

Yeah. I remember hearing that Smith hates playing center. Don't want to misuse him when we have a legit center in Withey, even if he is a rookie. I like the idea of Brandan Wright, though. I could see us bringing him in to start.

I think Smith gets the starting nod and probably gets about 22 minutes per game. The rest of the time will be split between Withey and Davis at the 5, with Withey probably getting 10-15 minutes.
