One of general themes of Dell Demps press conference: Pelicans didn't see core group together long enough to make broad/accurate analysis

quote:

Jennifer Hale ?@JenHale504

The @PelicansNBA Eric Gordon going into surgery today to clean up left knee issues. Expected to be back 100% healthy for training camp.

The @PelicansNBA GM Dell Demps promises to be "creative" & "aggressive" in immediately improving #NOLA roster for around Anthony Davis

"We like Anthony Morrow a lot. There are things we can't talk ab right now," Dell Demps on if @PelicansNBA trying to keep @MrAnthonyMorrow

quote:

Gus Kattengell ?@Gkatt_17

Pels GM Dell Demps says he has been told Ryan Anderson is expected to be ready at the start of next season. Good news

Demps says Eric Gordon will undergo a clean up surgery on left knee today. Also Jrue Holiday is walking expects to be ready at start of yr

quote:

Fletcher Mackel ?@FletcherMackel

Demps "we have such a small sample size due to injury, but we like our core."

Pelicans GM Dell Demps "we're disappointed in the season. We're determined to attain success."

quote:

Michael McNamara ?@McNamara247

Dell says, "You don't wanna just go and get somebody big and tall if they can't play." Must have learned that lesson this year. #Steamer

Dell on whether he will try to get a draft pick, "We are looking for immediate improvement. Guys in draft are so young."

On Ryan Anderson, "I've been told it was a successful surgery and if everything goes according to plan, he should be back by training camp."

Dell says he is happy with Gordon and that Eric has "bought into the program"

Says Jeff (Withey) looked a little lost when he first got here, but staff has done a great job with him. Says Austin really improved too.

Dell says Withey needs to get stronger but he likes the progress. I totally agree. Can he do it?

Dell says, "Monty did a good job of putting Tyreke in good situations." Uh.... Like all those minutes with Aminu and Stiemsma???

Demps said it was not fair to try to assess Pelicans Coach Monty Williams based on the extreme short-handed nature of the team’s roster for nearly the entire season. Although the Pelicans are disappointed with the bottom-line outcome of this season, injuries were an overwhelming factor.

“I think it’s tough with all of the injuries,” said Demps, who arrived in New Orleans during the same ’10 offseason as Williams. “It’s unfair to give a true assessment (of Williams). With the pieces that he’s had and the way they’ve developed, I think that’s a definite positive. We’ve had a number of players improve. Obviously we want to get all of those improvements on the court at the same time. I think he was put in an impossible situation, with the injuries we’ve had. I thought the way our guys competed, I am happy with that. Every game we came into, I thought our team was prepared, played hard and gave maximum effort. I think we have established a culture of a blue-collar mentality, and I think Monty definitely gets the credit for that.”

Pierre Jackson retweeted someone else talking about Demps saying "we've been in contact with him" and put a crying emoticon in front of it.

What's going to upset me and everyone else is when Reke starts next season as the 6th man

That's what Dell was probably referring to when he said "buying into the program" that same damn program they started off with this season

Also I don't give 2 fricks if EG has bought in or not he doesn't fit esp with his $15 mil

6th man is fine if he plays 35 mpg like Anderson

Playing him 20mpg like he was early in the season was killing me

I remember someone saying recently that Evans has his best PER of his career this season, so maybe there is some truth to it.

Jrue was on the B&B report earlier this week and said he hasn't touched a basketball yet and doesn't know when he'll be able to play again. Said, "at least a couple months." Wasn't very reassuring at all, although, he did seem certain he'd be ready for training camp.

Didn't he have surgery like a month ago?

I doubt they'd want him to do anything strenous for now.

He'll be fine no doubt.

According to this doctor they don't let you return to action until you are 100%.

quote:

Recovery from a tibial stress fracture is lengthy whether or not surgery is performed. Usually physicians will not let the patient return to sports or exercise such as running until the fracture has completely healed. That process can often take three to four months. At that point, activities are gradually introduced. The time to return to sports is lengthy, but if the fracture heals uneventfully, return to full participation with no limitations is often seen.

I know the information vacuum and non stop injury parade have us always thinking the worst, but what we're seeing/hearing for Jrue doesn't seem out of line for the injury he had.

John Reid with a transcript of much of the Demps Presser. LINK A few interesting bits that hadn't been covered yet:

quote:

Q: If you pursue more help in the low post this offseason, where does that leave Jason Smith, who becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer?

A: ''It hurt when we lost Jason (to a knee injury). But obviously we want to continue getting better. (We) like what he brings to the core, like his ability to shoot, his energy and he’s a good guy in the locker room. (But) you also look at how you improve your roster. We’ll look at that, but we can do both.''

"We like X but Y." It's not the same thing as saying we're going in different directions, but that's probably the first public thing I've seen where Smith isn't on 100% solid ground.

quote:

Q: Because you still hold his draft rights, do you have any plans for guard Pierre Jackson this upcoming season?

A: ''He’s an interesting one. He played really good in the D-League. I think he was the leading scorer. We’ve followed him and been in contact with him. When we made the trade last year, we knew we were giving up our draft pick and we kind of looked at him as our draft pick for this year. So we have his draft rights and he’s going to be experienced, a little bit older. Can I promise Pierre Jackson is going to be on our team next year? I can’t say that right now. But he’s definitely an asset. I want to make sure I say that. He’s done everything and exceeded expectations.''

Not looking good for Pierre as a Pelican.
