Jrue has been injured for most of his time with us. trading 2 1st rounders was not a good trade.

Love how depending on the point someone wants to make, Demps has no power to make moves, all of the power, Loomis is actually in control, Dumars is secretly in control, Demps has actually already been fired.... I miss any?

I guess in this case, Demps had full control and unilaterally decided to do nothing.

I always bring this up. I have no clue how people forget about it when bringing up his failures.

It's almost like people have different opinions/theories and the board is reflecting that....

That essentially became a 1st rounder for Jarrett Jack.

i dont understand why people think this is so bad.

you cant control a trade 100% from our side. No sense in dealing them for guys we might be lukewarm about on longer contracts.

Its like we get these bad contracts, and people say how much they want to free up money, and when money is about to get freed up, they want to add contracts that arent totally on our own terms. Its dumb.

I think it was a TBW article a few weeks back that pointed out some quotes from Gentry and Demps that made it sound like they like him as a core piece. I'm sure it was a team decision to value him so highly, it just doesn't seem like the right decision. Can Ryno be part of an AD contender? Yes. Will that happen if they're keeping Ryno because they don't think Rome is burning? No. Don't tell us your core is AD/Ryno/Jrue, show us by turning the $35 million you're paying EG/Tyreke/Asik into 2 new, better starters.

Because Jack was a pretty halfway decent player for the pick IMO at least.

For me it stems from the rumor circulating from a couple sources that Demps was asking too much. That implies there were offers but Demps was overplaying his hand.

To me, given Memphis just nabbed a first rounder(2019 but still) and an expiring in Lance Stephenson for Jeff Green, it tells me, that if we wanted to we could of gotten a similar deal.

There is no evidence that Demps was in a position where all the offers available we bad contacts.

Giving up first rounders for halfway decent players through the prism of optimism bias is partly why we are in the situation we are in.

There were picks out there to get. No doubt in my mind.

We wouldnt need to add salary after this year on many deals.

We added zero assets, took away a bunch of ping pong balls, and commit to paying a ton for Ryno and/or EG or letting them walk for nothing.

That was my thought too. If you aren't comfortable with the players that could be traded. Go get a veteran that's expiring and some type of developmental pick.

1. Re-Signed EG instead of S&T to Phoenix

Terrible in hindsight, but I understood at the time.

quote:

2. Drafted Austin Rivers

Another one that is worse in hindsight than at the time. There was a huge talent dropoff after Drummond and Lillard. However, I still liked Henson more despite him playing the same position as AD.
quote:

3. Giving up 2 1st rounders for Jrue

Being that the 76ers withheld his injury information, I won't put this on Demps. I don't think I would take any combination of Noel/MCW/Burke and Saric/Peyton for Jrue right now.
quote:

4. Traded GV and RoLo for Tyreke

This was horrible. Flat out horrible. You gave away a good backup PG, and a good starting Center, both on decent deals, to overpay for Tyreke Evans.
quote:

5. Traded a 1st rounder for Omer Asik

I'd give it a C+. We desperately needed a Center after giving away RoLo, and Asik looked pretty good his first year in Houston when he was a starter. Was the 1st too much, or should it have been protected more? Probably. But, the pick ended up not being great away (15th-16th IIRC).
quote:

6. Re-Signed Omer Asik

This was bad. I understand that we had his Bird Rights and the alternative would likely have been starting Ajinca, but it was still a bad deal for Asik.
quote:

7. Kept an expiring EG and Ryno

Agree on Ryno, but we weren't going to get anything for a rental of the currently, and often injured Eric Gordon.

With all of that being said, it's Demps time to go.

The same guys are all over the place though.

Were his hands tied or not? Who knows...

But he can't be hand-tied one moment, then "Demps just got himself fired" the next. As if Loomis had no and instead was checking twitter to get updates like us.

And whether or not Demps was handcuffed, Loomis could've accepted any deal he thought was in the best interest of the franchise. Thats his job.

We don't know what went down in the room, but i'm positive Loomis and co. weren't surprised by today's outcome. They were in on the decision(s).

Agree with the assessment of Jack, and Demps did somewhat save himself with being able to send Bayless for Jack, but the deal with a 1st for Bayless.

You can't assume that we would of remained in the same draft positions if we didn't trade for guys like Jrue, Evans or Asik.

By all accounts, post Noel, those picks would of been higher had we not tried rushing the rebuild.

Remember when people here wanted to trade Ryno for Asik when he was on the rockets. I remember.

Are the same posters doing this though? Or are we just kinda combining the swirling opinions of individual posters and then treating them like they are of one mind?
