You save your owner some money in a shitty year. I know that some fans don't want to think like this, but its an economic reality and a plus. Get over it.

This really wasn't the case, though. Benson still had to pay all those dead contracts. It was just that he is willing to take a hit this year to get ourselves out of the tiny box the Shinn crammed the roster into.

At the very least, we have flexibility. Okafor and Ariza were absolute anchors. I remember posters on here (SFP) claiming with absolute certainty that would couldn't move either of them individually, let alone together for a pure salary dump.

It was a completely genius move by Dell. You're just wrong, Brmark.

Ariza was so terrible, and Okafor was so expensive...great move.

Was he banned? If so, is he one of the "new" posters that appeared with grudges?

The team has no choice but to make some moves this summer. They have kind of painted themselves into a corner and I'm just hoping they don't make a desperation move now (Bynum or Iggy). I like the idea of smaller moves, but those guys usually end up being bench or rotational guys and this team needs a bit more than that. I'm hoping they hit it big though..

SloFloPro? He's got like 200k posts, the most on this site. Definitely not new and not banned as far as I know.

I know, but I never see him post anymore. That's why I was asking. I just checked and he seems to only post on O/T and Political Talk now. Those are two boards that I avoid.

I don't think the team is desperate for a move, but Benson may be and that is a concern. I've said several times if the big fish you want isn't there, there will be multiple teams like Dallas and Golden state who will be desperate to dump expiring contracts to free up money for Free Agency.

Under my assumptions, K. Martin, Jack and Aminu would come off the books for about 20m

You're right, I forgot about Martin and Jack's deals expiring. That would have been a really smart move to bring them in, help us win a few games while raising our draft position/eating into Rivers's playing time, then letting them walk before before our young players start taking the next step. A much better idea than having a pair of 24 year old big men on great contracts for the next 2 or 3 years.

Don't forget, the team has 18+ in dead space this season.

We have $18m in dead space because we traded Okafor and Ariza for Lewis, which you said was a bad move that you wouldn't have done.

Plus we can probably sign the elite Jarrett Jack this offseason if we wanted to anyway. He's a FA and GS is already in the tax for next season.

Let's not forget that this team was able to win 27 games with Gordon out for half the year and pretty much had to rely on rookies like Rivers and Roberts heavily early on. Williams has gone on record and said that we could have won a couple more games had he forced the issue with AD.

Considering the circumstances, we are well ahead of the curve. With the Development of Davis and Rivers, a good draft, and a Ryan Anderson-like acquisition could really push the team into the next phase which will be battling for a playoff spot.
