They stole that from Crews. He’s been saying that for a while now

Sobering info but nothing Pels fans don't already know. The Saints are number one, and the Pelicans are just a hobby.

The only reason AD is here is because Stern pulled strings post-Katrina and CP3's bungled trade. Now we're about to languish in a Sacramento Kings/Orlando Magic like hell forever and I'm fairly sure that's exactly what Gayle really wants out of it all anyway.

No training staff in the world will stop someone from landing on another guys foot and spraining their ankle, or breaking a pinkie while diving for the ball, or getting a stomach virus from their daughter..

They are reaching with that article..

Also, IIRC we overhauled the training staff with "basketball guys" recently due to the injuries we were having.

Its not a deadspin article. It's from Tom Haberstroh, NBCSports national NBA writer.

Pels fans should read it. Goes into Gordon, Holiday, Cousins injuries. Tough look, but fair I think, for the organization

LINK

quote:

Over the last five seasons, the Pelicans have lost the second-most games due to injury or illness. Only the Sixers have fared worse over the last five seasons, which has been well-chronicled.

This pattern isn’t a total anomaly if you ask rival team executives, who have long chided the Pelicans’ medical team for being run by “football guys” instead of those who have experience in the NBA. Fair or not, the Pelicans are fighting against a league-wide perception.

“The organization only cares about the Saints,” one league exec told NBC Sports.

Run by the Benson family, the Pelicans are one of three NBA teams whose primary ownership group also owns an NFL franchise (the Allen family owns the Blazers/Seahawks and the Kroenke family owns the Nuggets/Rams). But the Pelicans are the only NBA team that shares both its staffing and practice facility grounds with the football team, which many around the league see as a “corporate synergy” cost-saving measure. In 2012, the late Tom Benson appointed Saints general manager Mickey Loomis to be president of basketball operations for the Pelicans, overseeing Demps in the org chart. While the Lakers have Magic Johnson and the Celtics have Danny Ainge, the Pelicans have a football executive.

In the Pels defense, what alumni do we have to move the needle at that position? Masburn, Big Cat, or Baron Davis?

Yes, they lack the history of many teams.

That doesn't preclude them from hiring an actual basketball executive to be team president.

They actually got rid of Brooks as head trainer and have brought Dr. Suri on full time. I don't know if they just didn't replace Brooks but Dr. Suri is the one I've seen treating players at games.

I'm not saying how they had been running things wasn't a travesty, because it was, but they have been making lots of changes for the better, or at least more modern the past few years with regards to training and medical. In the context of the Haberstroh article it's fair, but I feel it's going to be taken out of context by people that assume that nothing has changed when quite a lot has. Kind of like how this thread is set up.

I agree. They seem to be trying to change course.

Haberstroh article is a really good, long detailed look at all of that. Talks about Brooks being fired.

Also talks about Suri being fired by the Saints, but staying on with the Pels. I imagine they have their reasons, but it's, again, a tough look. Fire the football doctor for incompetence, keep him on for the basketball team.

While I agree that the Pels need a dedicated POBO, I see absolutely nothing wrong with the training facility being on the same campus. I think that is just reaching for something to complain about.

How do you think the front office addresses this? Do they have a talk and then go to AD to smooth it over? Refute the charges? Tell him there's been changes and the team is working on it?

Or are they just like "frick it. Anthony won't see this. He doesn't read the internet."

Do you really think AD cares about a deadspin article? If these are issues with him, he has firsthand knowledge and does not need to rely on a half-baked website to give him information.

Well, that's a terrible take.

Based on your 1st sentence, seems pretty clear that you didn't read the article.

1 dude was fired from the Saints for a history of botched things, including misdiagnosing a broken leg as a bone bruise. That same dude stayed on with the Pels. That's just 1 example that leads me to believe you didn't read the article based on your 1st statement.

Sharing a space and having a real, separate basketball organization? Great.

Sharing top brass and trainers and doctors and a space? That is an issue for a billion dollar business and is the case the entire article makes

Yeah, she wants this team to wallow in mediocrity, that's why they spent all that money on a new practice facility, they are spending the money to implement a G-League team etc etc etc..

That cat never wanted to be here and sat out as much as he could. Terrible attitude the whole time he was here. I never had less respect for any player that participated here.
