Alvin Gentry says Dante Cunningham will likely start at 3 tomorrow night
He also said Anthony Davis will be available

Do stars usually play in the preseason? I don't like the thought of that

Why wouldn't he be?

He got a booboo in the scrimmage and finished on the bench for precautionary reasons. It's just confirmation that what happened at the scrimmage was nothing.

Per Pelicans PR Twitter account, Asik is listed as being out with Ankylosing Spondylitis. Which is a type of arthritis that affects the spine, and is associated with Crohn's disease.

How do we get him off the books? This dudes career is obviously over

Everything we keep finding out about his condition doesn't look good for Asik.
1) Have Asik actually not be able to play again because of his condition.
2) February 10th 2018, on the 1 year anniversary from the last time he played, apply for a medical retirement salary exemption with the league.
3) Have an independent doctor appointed by the league and union agree that Asik isn't healthy enough to play again.
If all of that happens insurance should cover most of his salary and it all would be off the books next season.

He has to not play until this February, I believe. It doesn't seem like they are anxious to put him on the floor. I don't think he plays in the NBA again.
ETA: and he has to have an independent physician state that he can no longer play.

Do we have any idea how long this takes?
I guess it doesn't matter, as the trade deadline is February 8th.

I know someone with that. He will never get over it.
He can treat the symptoms but will never be free of the symptoms.

Ankylosing Spondylitis
I was diagnosed with that when I lived in L.A. It's a shitty thing to deal with. Luckily, mine just dissipated after awhile with loads of anti-inflammatories.

That's the book on A.S. for sure. Occasionally, it "burns itself out" according to my rheumatologist. I was lucky, and that's what happened with me . . . sofar, fingers crossed. If someone is symptomatic, I see no way that he can play. It's painful, and your mobility is restricted.

I mentioned this in the other thread. But the ankylosing spondylitis will not play in as a factor on whether or not Asik will play this year. It's a very slowly progressing condition that flares up occasionally and can be treated by anti-inflammatories. His status for this season all depends on how his Crohn's reacts to treatment.

He already has a history of back issues, this compounding with that can't be good.

Lol no its not. And I'm not there with Asik to get a better understanding of his particular situation. I'm just relaying the most typical case of this. But maybe it's progressing faster than normal

Either way, if Asik is still out as of February, this is not the type of thing that gets better. I don't see how someone misses a year with a chronic and worsening disease, and a doctor then says he can still play.

Is this game going to be on tv ?
re: Dante likely to start at SF vs. the BullsPosted by TigerinATL on 10/3/17 at 8:56 am to WB504
The Pels don't broadcast their own preseason games but Chicago will if you have CSN Chicago. The NBAStreams subreddit is the best place to find alternate ways to watch the game which is probably what most of us will have to do.
