I agree i think Griff wants someone he can somewhat control. That sounds like a bad way to say it, but i think it's more just having someone that has the same vision for the teams future and is willing to accept losses to do the "right thing" at times.
Same nonsense happened last time. Great job opening, we supposedly could have any of the top guys we we want and instead we end up with some trash retread. Waiting on a guy to deliver results he's never shown. But "experience."

The only reason this hire can't go worse than last time is because Gentry isn't an option. Unless, of course, they hire Jacque Vaughn.

I don't want either of those guys, but i'd take both over Jacque Vaughn or 2015 Alvin Gentry.

I would not. There is no one I want less than Mark Jackson. You know how much I think Gentry sucks as a coach?

I’d take Gentry getting a 5 year extension over one season of Jackson. I despise that frick.

lol. I get it.

I just think people let their hatred of him as a broadcaster cloud their perception of him as a coach. He was...fine, as a coach. Not great. But not worthy of the hatred he gets. That comes off as personal. If he never goes into broadcasting I think he'd have gotten a job by now.

He reverse Doug Collins'd himself.

I think Stan Van is in the process of Doug Collins'ing right now. People are loving him on broadcasts and it's probably gonna get him looks he wouldn't have had.

Are there any seats left? How is the space in the overhead bin looking? And what's the snack situation?

Couple of different Bulls related blue checks mentioning that the bulls are “very interested” in Dan Craig over the past few days.

re: Coaching Prospect: Dan Craig. Get on board the hype train.
JJ’s latest podcast has Chris Bosh talking about Heat culture. The foundation being a fitness test that everybody has to pass before they are allowed to begin training camp. It’s pretty simple, just sprinting the length of the court 20 times in under 60-70 seconds depending on if you’re a guard or a big.

The test does 2 things.

1) Everyone comes into camp in shape so you can hit the ground running.
2) Apparently fitness requirements like this aren’t common with most teams in the league except for maybe rookies. Vets In the league tend to think they are above it and so it’s sets a tone and makes fitness a cornerstone of the team.

He also mentions that they do a good job of bringing in guys that fit the culture. Long multi position defenders that get after it and would rather win a game with a defensive play. Sounds a lot like Jrue would be both a desirable player for the Heat in a trade, or a tone setting veteran if you’re trying to implement Heat like culture.

Pat Riley trademark. He keeps before and after pictures of players after going through his rigorous training exercises. 20 years worth

JJ also talked about the importance of accountability and how it’s hard for coaches to get that from players. I think JJ is looking for a coach with the same qualities we want. Hopefully Griff is too.

The guy is the leading example of organizational poison in the last couple decades. An organization would be insane to bring him in after what he pulled in GS.

Guy really shouldn’t even be qualified to be making critiques for money for how at every level of his career in GS he was a toxic, hypocritical, selfish shitheel. Lucky for him the worst stories didn’t come out until after ESPN employed him.

Guy manipulated his team with lies to turn them on assistants he thought were threats, preached the gospel while cheating on his wife with prostitutes, fabricated wedges to drive in between his team and ownership, fabricated wedges to drive between his own players(look up the story about Mark Jackson and Festus Ezeli). Was not a good schemer or X’s and O’s guy. Famously bragged about not preparing as a philosophy during the playoffs, why would any organization want that?

re: Coaching Prospect: Dan Craig. Get on board the hype train.
We got another Heat Culture nugget from Duncan Robinson on Zach Lowe's latest podcat, the main guest is Dan Labetard and they talk lots of Heat for those that are interested.

When Duncan was sent down to the GLeague, his assignment from Spo was to guard the best wing player every night, even if he got burned, and to try and take 20 3s in a game. After hearing that it feels like both NAW and Jaxon should have spent more time in the GLeague. Jaxon got more experience than we ever could have hoped for his first year, but I'd love to have him play some games where wins don't matter and his main goal is to focus on improving some fundamentals like rebounding and blocking out for example.

The plan was for Jax to be in GLeague but injuries forced him to stay.

NAW should have been there half the year.

Some minor chatter out of Chicago that he’s being heavily considered by them.

That's a really bad take.

It definitely is. Not only did he do great in coaching those superstars, but he’s been a contender for years now. And the team he’s got this year is maybe the best in the league at the moment.
