the idea that they matched and still might cut him is ludicrous (to me anyway) It makes zero sense

I agree. It would mean they simply did it to say F U Dell, and I doubt that is the case.

seems like they could cut Evans and trade milos pretty easily and be done with it. Pels can’t take milos’ contract without sending back money

oh well

The most likely (and probably only) guy who has a chance of being on the Pels to start the season, that is currently on the Clippers, is Tyrone Wallace.

The Pels have a handful of guys they are giving 50K to that they will cut. They could easily have 150-200K in dead money after camp is over. Why is it so hard to understand that the Clips are doing the same thing with Wallace and have 300K in dead money after camp? Especially with their owner and no tax implications.

You bring him back and maybe he has improved and you cut someone else. Maybe he isn't that good and all it cost you was 300K. Maybe someone else sees Wesley Johnson play well in preseason and takes him off your hands. Several things could happen. And if none of them do... then you are out 300K, which is nothing to their owner. I am struggling to see why this is so hard for some of you to understand.

Can we even sign him if he was cut?

Of course. He is a free agent at that point. The only guys you can't sign are guys you trade and thats because back in the days, a team would trade a guy at the deadline to a garbage team with a backdoor agreement that the team would buy him out and he would re-sign with the team that traded him.

Thats the only guy you can't sign and obviously that was not the case with Wallace.

I would put it at a better than 50% chance that the Clips cut Tyrone Wallace as of right now.

I think you are wrong here. Isn’t this the reason DMo signed here on the min instead of going to the Nets?

Nets could not sign him for one year after the Rockets matched even though they rescinded his rights and he was a UFA.

No, DMo couldn't go back to the Nets because he didn't report for the physical with the Rockets

LINK

If he would have reported and been a Rocket, then got cut, the Nets could have signed him.

If Wallace shows up for his physical, goes to camp with Clips, gets cut, etc - then he is free to sign with any team. Including the Pels

Congrats on being the 12 millionth person to use that Gif

Yes, there is a chance. But its Tyrone Wallace. It won't matter either way.

I think 14 spots are essentially locked and there is room for one more. He might be in camp now, he might not. The 14 are

Payton/Clark
Jrue/Frank
Moore/Hill/Miller/ T Williams
AD/Randle/Diallo
Niko/Jahlil/Ajinca

I don't get why people were ever excited about this. Demps has always been good at finding back of rotation players for little to nothing, but they never become anything substantial. These guys either leave "too soon" or they stick around on a 2nd contract and people immediately realize how limited they are once they aren't making the minimum anymore. I'm waiting for everyone to start cursing Darius Miller next year when he's still inconsistent but making closer to $5-$6 than $2.

Moore is a 2/3, so is Miller
Hill and T Williams are both 3/4's

The 30+ mpg small forward will be on the team in February or next July at the latex. He is not here now
