This entire thread is coherent and sensible. Not sure how that happened, but well done. I think there are some pretty clear systemic issues on both sides of the ball. Ryno will fix some of the offensive ones, but the defense is going to be harder to turn around. Monty appears to be well liked and respected by his teams, but he clearly needs a top level assistant, to handle some (or most) of the schemes/adjustments. He does not have that now. If he is not willing to find help, the team might be best served finding a new coach.

I don't think it's as easy as saying "find a top-level assistant". At this point, why would any reasonable talent take an assistant job under Monty? Thinking that he can help turn the team around and help Monty keep his job? Even by some miracle this were to happen, if the team does a 180 and this assistant proves to be more than adequate, it's quite possible we lose him to another team...again. The whole league essentially knows Monty is on the hot seat right now. Hell, even Vegas knows Monty is on the hot seat.

If this were the route Monty wanted to go, he waited entirely too long to do it IMO. He doesn't have all year to wade through the filth. He needs to win sooner rather than later. A 30 win season followed by switching assistants is not going to cut it for him. Were he to use one of the current assistants as a scapegoat this season, the only reason he would ever find an up and coming commodity to help him out was if that person viewed us as a platform to a HC opportunity. Than the Pelicans are back to square one.

I think the bottom line is that Monty better figure this crap out now or he is gone. That's really all there is to it.
