Can someone explain why Zion should be so disappointed in not being a Knick?

They’re a horribly run organization thanks to having one of the worst owners in all of sports and have mostly been a sub .500 team since the 2000s.

I just don’t get the entitlement amongst their fans/media that now he’s destined to waste away playing for a poor organization when they’ve been just as bad, if not worse.

Why do you think the media is portraying it that way?

Because they have a vested interest in superstars in huge markets. They push for FAs to NY every offseason. And it never happens.

Its the media pushing a narrative just like they tried with the lakers/AD fiasco

I wouldn't think much of it

His team probably upset about the endorsements or something to that effect. Dude is gonna make plenty of money no matter what.

You seriously don’t understand why someone who has the potential to be a brand on the level of Jordan and LeBron would rather be in New York over New Orleans?

If he is a brand like Jordan or LeBron it doesn’t fu@ing matter where he plays. LeBron had a brand and he played in Cleveland

- He's 18

- He's coming into a celebrity obsessive league that puts an unhealthy emphasis on market.

- He had probably built up the hype of going to a great American market after growing up in NC and all the ESPN nonsense

- NOLA has not established itself as a winning franchise.

- He has ESPN and no doubt saw the AD drama.

It's not crazy to think a guy in that situation, in that moment, would be disappointed and not handle it with pure poise. He's a class act and Griffin has done everything right. It will be fine.

Zion will either get to come into the league and play with two all stars or one all star and some combo of his Duke buddies(Tatum or Barrett). Under a determined and revamped franchise hungry to prove something and a coach that fans might not like but players adore. A fanbase looking for a new star and the freedom to grow or win immediately. He'll be ok.

Yes! Zion wasn’t mad. It’s just the media begging for a big name player to goto a big market. Why do you think they pin every all star to NY, LA, BOS, or sometimes MIA but they never go.

I get most of that sure....but why would anyone be more competent in the Knicks organization to build a good team around him? It seems they’ve been tanking for a while promising that big FA acquisition and have nothing to show for it

18, big market, agents whispering about endorsements, probably has very little understanding of the nuances of that franchises historic failings or rationalized them away, lots of reasons.

It will be fine though. Zion will be coming into a lot better situation than any of those franchises and that will change a lot of things over the long run IMO.

Um, LeBron left Cleveland for Miami and Los Angeles. I’m just the messenger answering the question asked. Not even sure why anyone with a brain would disagree with what I said.

LA constantly has gotten stars to sign there. Miami put together a damn super team. Players openly talk about wanting to go to NY and they are about to get KD. Boston has never been a place top guys wanted to sign.

I know the NFL is a different animal but if the Browns managed to change their franchise around, why not us?

This is irrelevant as to why a star would want to play for the Knicks. No matter how big of a mess the Lakers and Knicks are on the inside, the idea of those franchises is still cool.

LeBron just went to a terrible Lakers franchise where he will probably never win another title purely because he wanted to produce stuff. Going to the Knicks dumpster fire and getting them to the playoffs makes you a king in NY.

He has more money making potential in New York, so I can see why he’d be disappointed. The problem is, the Knicks probably trade him to New Orleans anyway. The pelicans franchise has a bad history. The Griffin era is starting off nicely, but the proof is what you put out on the court. If we show him he can win here, he’ll be fine

New Orleans franchise (hornets/pels) have been more successful than the Knicks have been in recent years.

I agree with everything you've said in this thread, but Zion isn't an idiot. If the Knicks win the lotto, he's getting traded to the Pels. He's where he would have ended up regardless, but now he's either got AD with him, or a handful of really good players/assets instead. Compared to the Knicks getting #1, the Pels winning the lotto was a MUCH outcome for him if he wants to win over the next 5 years.

I love NOLA as much as anyone, but if I was 18 and about to have more money than I could dream of and be a major celebrity there is no way I would want to be in NOLA instead of NYC. He said on ESPN he hasn’t even been to the city before, let’s give him a break before crucifying him.

I don't think that anyone is crucifying him, people are just anxious given that we're dealing with a superstar big that no longer wants to be here, and recently dealt for another All-Star big that was clearly pissed off when he found out about the trade (though that was most likely money related).

In the grand scheme of things, he's coming into a much better situation as the first pick in the draft than 90% of other top picks. Typically, the top pick goes into an absolute barren situation.

He's coming to a team who will have assets out the arse. Thanks AD
