As in, someone

But Jester's point was this mythological someone doesn't exist. Here is the SF position sorted by top 30 PER. You pretty much go from Superstar to role player. Jeff Green might be the closest to available and in a similar talent tier. A guy like DeMare Carroll would make a lot of sense and meet your criteria, but I'm not trading Ryno for him. There's a reason Ryno's making over $8 million per year, trading him for someone that the market values at MLE or lower is not a fair trade.

1 Kevin Durant 29.90
2 LeBron James 29.40
3 Carmelo Anthony 24.50
4 Paul George 20.16
5 Kawhi Leonard 19.43
6 Tyreke Evans 18.43
7 Rudy Gay 18.40
8 Paul Pierce 16.81
9 Michael Beasley 16.80
10 Tobias Harris 16.54
11 Jeremy Evans 16.27
12 Nick Young 16.11
13 Chandler Parsons 15.90
14 Nicolas Batum 15.86
15 Luol Deng 15.22
16 Josh Smith 14.10
17 DeMarre Carroll 13.96
18 Shawn Marion 13.78
19 Andre Iguodala 13.71
20 P.J. Tucker 13.31
21 Al-Farouq Aminu 13.19
22 Jeff Green 13.17
23 Omri Casspi 12.91
24 Jordan Hamilton 12.75
25 Draymond Green 12.73
26 Corey Brewer 12.71
27 Mike Dunleavy 12.62
28 Mike Miller 12.50
29 Wilson Chandler 12.48
Andrei Kirilenko 12.48

Jeff Green

This is the Green I like.

Let's say the Pels were interest in him and Boston was willing to deal.

Would you trade Ryno for Jeff Green straight up?

Obviously Jeff Green + a pick would be nice since Boston shouldn't be great this year, but if Boston said no way on Green + pick, would you do Ryno for Green?

Just curious what people think.

I wouldn't. I still don't see why we can't wait until next year to land a SF so we can get a SF role player and keep Ryno.

I'm not against that. I was just approaching it from the we need to trade Ryno for a SF right now mindset.

And since I like Green ( ), and he's probably the best SF that would be available in a trade, I was just seeing what people thought about a trade like that.

I absolutely would not trade Ryno for Green straight up. It would probably take a protected first + Green to make me consider it.

PER is not an end all stat. It ignores the side of the floor that is the biggest downside to having Ryno play a major role, defense.

Don't worry, I won't let the fact that you legitimately used "Gay 3way" in a PT post go to waste.

I didn't say it was, but the top 30 SFs in PER should give you a pretty reasonable representation of the hypothetical starting playoff caliber SF population. If you want to throw a name onto the list for consideration that was omitted due to PER's inherent flaws and biases, go right ahead. Ariza and Danny Green are notable absences because ESPN is listing them as SGs for some reason. DeRozan and Gerald Green could probably be considered SFs for this discussion as well.

I was going to bring up Gerald Green, he would be between 10 and 11 on the list.

I really want Danny or Gerald next off-season, both are in the last year of their current deals.

I want to get a long term SF by next off season but if we can't then following off season I hope Monty and Dell are going to go hard after Batum with the money we have from Gordon's contract ending. He is the perfect fit for this team in terms of ability to hit the 3 and being one of the better defensive SF in the game.

Both are realistic targets as I wouldn't expect them to get more than the MLE but both of their current teams may not be able to justify paying them that much. The Spurs will have to give Kawhi Leonard a payday and the Suns just drafted a SF in the 1st and paid PJ Tucker.

I'd love Batum, but by the time he's a free agent Davis' contract will kick in (I believe) and therefore we won't really have the cap room.

Actually, it will depend on the cap increases and timing of his max offer.

True, I keep forgetting about the expected cap increase in the 2016 season.

If the new TV deal pushes the cap to $80 million, AD's new deal would start $24 million. If Asik is getting $12 and Jrue and Tyreke are the only other players on the books, you'd have $22 million to resign Anderson, a starting SF and fill out the bench. In some ways that feels like a step back if in 2 years we essentially trade our entire bench for a starting SF. It's not the worst plan though. Assuming those top 6 pieces are who you want to surround AD with long term. AD would be starting a 5 year deal and all you'd have to do is fill out the bench with exceptions for a few years and you'd be a contender if you already had the roster right 1-6.

What would Anderson's and Davis' cap holds be? I doubt Davis' hold would be the full $24M. So you should actually have more than $24 to spend on other teams free agents, then you could use your Bird's Rights to resign Davis and Anderson and finally end up with the Room Level Exception.

Am I wrong about any of this?

If I'm looking at this right, Davis' hold would be 250% of his previous salary, $7.07M. That would put his hold at about $17.7M.

For Anderson, he should be making the estimated average salary, so that would make his hold 150% of previous salary, or $12.75M

Evans at $10.20M
Holiday at $11.78M

That's $52.41M, which leaves about $37.59M in space before all other holds. One would hope we would get Asik back, which would probably take up about $12M, so you're down to $25M before holds.

So, who will be the free agents in 2016? I'm ready to spend.

The only way I would entertain trading Ryno is if we can also move Sandy without picking up another shitty contract. If Boston was willing to take both for Green and a pick, then I am interested. Like previously mentioned, why not just go to war with what we have, hope we can move Knee before the trade deadline, and find an SF next offseason?

I believe this is what's going to happen.
