Way outside of the box idea here, but imagine the Wizards say they aren't trading Beal and the Pels firmly believe they need a star to excite AD short term and long term.

What about Blake Griffin. Yes, the Pistons just traded for him but that was a different regime. This regime could see the writing on the wall and know a rebuild is needed. What if they would be willing to take: Niko, Hill, Wes, and a top-4 protected 1st? Would you do it?

You could still move Randle and/or Moore for perimeter guys. Or keep them, whatever. But your core would be Jrue, AD, and Blake. The great thing about Blake is you could play Jrue a lot more at "point guard" because Blake could be a point forward, leaving Jrue off ball as much as he is with Payton.

Just an outside the box idea that gets AD another star that actually fits in the system and is locked in for a while with Jrue so AD would see its sustainable.

I’ve thought about Blake, and I think he’s a hell of a player. I think he’s a bit of a ball stopper, so it would probably hurt my enjoyment, but it’s something we would have to consider. Especially since there is no guarantee we even retain Niko after this year.

I have enjoyed watching Blake reinvent himself as he is no longer an above the rim guy. He is averaging his highest ppg total of his career and has really expanded his jumper out to 3. My only concern is that this is his age 29 season and he has already shown signs of decline athletically. A declining Blake on that contract in a possible post AD era would be terrible.

He has declined athletically and perhaps become a better player. I love IQ and he has it in spades. I have no worries that he will be very productive into his mid 30s because of all the different things he can do.

It's an interesting idea for sure. Like you said, one of the most intriguing aspects in the idea of still having Jrue play off-ball giving Blake's ball-handling and playmaking abilities.

If you do end up having to move AD, then Jrue, Blake, Tatum, Smart or Jrue, Blake, Simmons becomes a pretty fun core for the post-AD era.

I do worry about his injury history and our just insanely bad luck with injuries.

The way I see it - If Pels are determined to get a star and Beal is not available, you are looking at Blake or Love. Or a far, far, far outside shot at Kemba - who I don't think is needed nor do I want to pay him his next contract

I mean if its Blake or Love, I go Blake by a mile. Especially if its something similar for the package you mentioned.

Assuming Beal is a no go, do you think it's more likely they try to go after a guy like Blake or set their sites on plan B guys like Barnes, Porter, or Baze/Prince?

All of the above. Teams don't focus on one trade. They talk about half a dozen at a time and then put them all up on the board and discuss which one presents the best value. You go after all these guys and see which one you can get at the best price relative to the value you asses to them

Something like this may be interesting:

LINK

Nets you Blake, Brogdon, and Maker, assuming Milwaukee's interest in Randle is real.

I love Blake...one of my favorite players...would love to see him when a title in NOLA if for nothing more than to stick it to Chris Paul.

But I’d rather re-sign Julius.

(Age/Injury)xProduction basically. I don’t think Julius will ever be Point Blake, but the mold is similar. Maybe I overvalue Julius.

I don’t like trading Niko either.

Your proposed trade is good value for value though...

I’d prefer B level trades, improving depth and calling the Loomis/Benson bluff on the spending into the tax in the off season.

And yes I keep our pick up until draft night.

And of course he goes off for 44 and beats the Clippers tonight almost single handedly

Speaking of Clippers, I can see them being a trade partner also.. They are looking to clear some space next season to go after Kawhi and another max guy..

Might be able to pry Harris from them

If you trade for Blake, you don't keep Niko or Randle, because there is no way you are gonna keep whichever guy you don't trade this summer.

As for getting Harris from the Clips - he is expiring so they have no incentive to move him to open up cap space.

Incentive could be to get something for him while you have him, and attach another guy that's owed money next season also, and get to tryout a guy to see if you want to keep him..

LAC: Randle, Clark
ATL: Hill, Wes, 1st from Pels
NOP: Harris, Harrel, Lin

That works for all, we get our SF (who should re-sign), a cheap Randle replacement under contract next season, and a backup to Payton..

Just looking at different options for depth, as I dont know if we will be able to land Beal (dont know about Blake either, I'd rather look elsewhere first)

Go ask a Clippers fan.... any Clippers fan to rate that trade. I guarantee they will say F-minus. Its obvious that you would like it. But all three teams would have to say yes
