Fact is coaching matters but it matters less in the NBA than any sport and any time I hear someone try to shuffle most of the blame on a coach for a teams problems I immediately put them in the category of the low IQ reactionary fan.

Coaching matters in every team sport. The lack of it shows up in the 4th Quarter or when the game's on the line.

Read what I said again. I didn’t say it doesn’t matter, I said it matters less than other sports.

And I’ve pointed it out before but the only thing stan can do late in the fourth is call plays and timeouts and give suggestions. There is some valid criticism to be had there, but most of the shite is simple people looking for simple narratives.

He can’t force Bledsoe to not miss an assignment or Lonzo to not be retarded. For BI to turn down a play to go iso and throw up bricks. Miss FT’s.

The coach wasn’t the main problem when Monty was here, it wasn’t the main problem with Gentry and it isn’t the primary issue now.

People just want to blame the coach because it’s the easy/lazy fans go-to

Gentry was bad at rotations, calling timeouts when the other team had runs, and had a blank stare when they was losing.

Look at Atlanta, Philly, New York, Minnesota this year on how they have improved compared to last year due to coaching. Warriors would have not won with MarcJackson compared to Steve Kerr. Raptors with Casey over Nick Nurse. Also developing players is essential to having a great HC.Ex-lakers/Magic’s who left the team to become better in their new team. Spurs with the development of their players. Popovich has no problem benching his star players if they are playing horrible. He holds them accountable for their action .

SVG can start NAW over Bledsoe if Bledsoe doesn’t care to play. But Bledsoe knows he will still be a starter because of how long he has been in the league. You need to respect the head coach and believe in his philosophy if you want to win.

I’m not saying blame it all on SVG. But he is partially to blame for some of our losts. Leaving Zion on the bench too long or having him play with the bench. Taking him out when he is on fire. Having Ingram miss 6 straight iso shots before calling a time out. Have an offensive scheme where it’s not all about giving the ball to Zion/Ingram. Not drawing up a great play at the end to give a great shot. Not playing our young players more in the beginning.

However, it is also about his this roster is built. We are lacking motivation and effort. Even Hart/Redick calls the team out on this. The head coach can do so much, but it’s all up to the players. I’m amazed at Ingram on how he gave some effort on defense on the Lakers but here seems to just totally forget about it.

We are in desperate need of a vocal leader like Westbrook, Paul or Rondo who coaches their team mates on the court.

Ok, look at LAC, IND, HOU, SAC.

All teams that had new coaches in the last two seasons(throw John Beilein in there too) that came about based on the same argument. None of them are really outperforming their predecessors and the same problems persist.

I never said SVG is faultless, but even now much of what you ascribe to him is debatable. NAW struggled much of the season, you can’t play Zion 40 minutes. Putting “energy and effort” on the coach is largely silly. Same with your criticism of Gentry.

It’s weird how two coaches now and the same issues persist. Lack of focus across 82 games, lack of sustained defensive intensity, turnovers, over reliance on needing to grind one or two players to the bone to win, maybe, just maybe, the problem isn’t primarily the coach. Maybe, just maybe, what this team needs is to develop and finding some better, more compatible pieces to work with.

It's really weird how the teams with great players don't change coaches very often, while the teams with crummy players often change coaches every year.

The players need a good coach to develop and believe in the coaches philosophy. Play into the system and what not. But I agree with you that a coach can do so much to help develop these players. They can tell them what they did wrong and hope they can change it, but it’s up to them if they want to.

Like DAntoni and Thibs changing to a new team and actually have good results.

But also it’s because of CP3/Westbrook/Harden and Derrick Rose that helps them to go that extra length.

We need a vocal player on the court that can actually speak what SVG has been preaching. Sadly that is one of Lonzo’s weakness. Griffin and Langdon needs to go for an aggressive/leadership player. The players will respond more to their team mates than the coach.

Just like Zion on how he feels like he is being coached by SVG compared to being coached by Gentry. It goes 2 ways.
