Ignoring the whole 5th year thing (not a big deal for a superstar like him), it would cost him something like $10m over his first four seasons. So no, I'm not even remotely worried.

Dell ruined our rebuild by rushing it. Very similar to what happened with the Chris Paul situation. I don't think it's a foregone conclusion, but it certainly looks a lot bleaker than it did 10 months ago. We have so many bad long-term contracts - it's really good to be tough to wriggle out of this.

I'm sure a coach's fit with his skillset will be considered more than what he wants. AD will be offered a 5 year $100ish million extension in 3 seasons which he'll happily agree too. The team has wiggle room, they aren't really on the clock with AD until the 2019/2020 season.

Seems like the kind of guy to be loyal and stick around. It just depends on whether Benson and company can put a good team around him.

The Pelicans can probably squeeze in 2 regime changes/rebuilds before potentially running AD off. Now the 2nd one had better work out or it will be CP3 all over again, but these "terrible contracts" will not be what runs AD off. And the contracts aren't terrible, giving these deals to players a full contract cycle older is terrible and that's what ran CP3 off. Tyreke Evans is the new iteration of Iggy and Josh Smith, not the old Peja.

The "terrible" contracts aren't even an issue. We can have a clean slate in the second year of AD's extension.

He signs and extension or is a restricted free agent if the Pelicans want him. Then there is also the Designated Player thing.

The regime change count and timeline comments are accurate.

Davis is the focus. The rest is distraction. Determining his Pippin-for-now is really the only thing that has to happen this season rosterwise.
