I fail to see how this guy could fail in the NBA (outside of injuries). None.

Especially in this scenario with the Pelicans. He would run the point for the second team and be an absolute leader in the locker room.

He's entirely too skilled. He can dribble. He can pass. He can defend. He's 6'5". Most importantly he can shoot lights out. Both spot up and dribble.

Take a look for yourself Ty Jerome Highlights

Only reason I can think of why he's not going in the lottery is because he's 21 and white.. People know his ceiling but he's going to contribute in a major way to a team for the next 12-15 seasons.

Would love to snag him mid to late 1st round if we trade down.

He was on Chris Vernon of the Ringers Can't fail list... I listened to him talk about on the pod today

quote:

Jerome is the best example of why I keep this list. Every single NBA exec, scout, college coach, media member, animal, and grandmother whom I talked to lovedTy Jerome. So what the hell is going on? How on earth are there going to be 20-plus guys drafted ahead of Ty Jerome? It is ridiculous. He’s tall, he’s tough, and he has off-the-charts basketball IQ. He is a bona fide winner, a leader, and a big-time competitor. Your team will screw up in the draft because they look at Ty Jerome and concede that he’s good, but then end up gushing over a 19-year-old who was worthless in college and wondering what that kid is gonna look like when he is 22. The answer, 95 percent of the time, will be: not as good as Ty Jerome. Earlier this month, Jerome shot 100 3s at a Celtics workout, and he hit 84 of them. Of course he did. Everyone seems to agree that Jerome is good, that he is going to be good, and that he will go too low. It is appalling. I’m appalled.

The problem is we don't have any mid-first round picks. #4 is way too early for him, and he won't last til the second round. I doubt we're aiming to acquire more draft picks this year, so unless he slipped to the last 1st and we could package our two second rounders together to move up, it just doesnt seem like he's in our range.

That said, I certainly wouldn't mind having someone like him on the team. Guys with his intangibles and shooting are always welcome. He will be a steal for someone. Just likely not us.

It's certainly looking that way but, with how great this draft is for role players, I could see him being taken at 18 if we traded down with Indiana in addition to grabbing myles turner

Or maybe because he doesn’t have an athletic frame, will be a weak defender at the nba level, shoots in coverage rather than creating shots...etc etc etc

I like that pick if we move into the mid-late teens or early 20’s.

I love Jerome but I can see why he’s projected as a late first round pick. Teams are drafting for potential future starting caliber player with early to mid first round picks and Jerome most likely will never be a starter. He isn’t quick enough to defend most of the guards in the league for long stretches so he will likely carve out a bench role in the NBA. That being said, I would take him in a heartbeat to be our 2nd team combo gaurd and 3 point specialist if we could maybe trade both our 2nd round picks to move up into one of the last spots of the 1st round. He could be a poor man’s JJ Redick one day.

Reminds me of a Malcolm Brogdon type player. Fitting seeing as they both went to uva.

I usually like to target kids like this, but watched him run the full court sprint at the combine...despite great intangibles he’s not going to be a thing unless he comes in with a new body.

Very poor athleticism & a negative wingspan are never a good thing.

One of my favorite players in the entire draft. And I think he could be a starter not just a 6th

they don't seem to impact VanVleet too much, who's 4" shorter.

Some people have compared him to Vasquez except a better defender

It’s always fun to compare players that aren’t similar

Hate this take. Go ahead and grab a 19 year old "project" who has all of the athleticism in the world but, with no skills/maturity/leadership. You'll then watch him on the bench in the G league til he signs in the Euro leagues.

I'll take Ty Jerome who does literally everything well so, I can make him my 6th man and team leader for years to come.

He's going to succeed in the NBA despite his physical limitations. The teams who pick Kevin Porter Jr. over him based on "upside" are going to look stupid in 5 years

this would mean a lot more to me if this thread wasn't talking about him being a bench guy. if we expected him to be a long-time starter? sure

Jake go watch his combine workouts, then come up with a guard in the L that you think he can guard. He labors to move. It doesn’t look like he’s worked out a day in his life. Skilled? Absolutely.

Vasquez is a decent comp. could get numbers on a bad team for 6-7 years. 10-15 mpg on a good team possibly
