Adelman returning was supposedly a big deal for SF FA target Chase Budinger and Pekovic is one of the more lusted after FAs...no homo.

quote:

Every indication points to Rick Adelman returning as coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves, president Flip Saunders said, apparently resolving one of the many prominent issues in front of Saunders early in his tenure as head of basketball operations.

...“We’ve talked every day, every other day,” Saunders said during a break at the adidas Eurocamp. “He talks about his staff, he talks about players. We were talking the other day about offenses that I ran, offenses that he ran. Talking just the basketball talk. The talks that we’ve had leads me to believe that he’s going to be back.

...Meanwhile, Saunders is scouting in preparation of two first-round picks in the June 27 draft, Nos. 9 and 26, looking to add size on the front line and shooting, trying to resolve a glut of point guards, and awaiting decisions on the futures of Nikola Pekovic and Andrei Kirilenko. Pekovic becomes a restricted free agent July 1 – “We plan on signing him,” Saunders said – while Kirilenko has to decide days before that whether to stay in his contract or return to free agency.

Seeming cheap and letting Pekovic go is certainly not a good way to convince Love to stay long term. I just don't see Pekovic being very attainable. People had visions of stealing Marc Gasol and Roy Hibbert and even DeAndre Jordan, but it didn't happen.

If we can't get Pek, make the Wolves overpay for him.

I always thought they were gonna match any deal outside of a max for him from the beginning.

Yeah, it's always been a pipe dream IMO. Good young bigs just don't get stolen away as RFAs.

Now only trading Gordon will make this a good off-season for me

I can't get too fired up for the eventual Mike Dunleavy signing or some shite

This is why I don't get my hopes up regarding trades/FAs

I'd really like to take a chance on Brandan Wright, who has kind of flown under the FA radar.

8.5/4.1 + 1.2 blocks in 18mpg, 21PER, 25 years old. I'd consider going up to something like 4 years/@$25m.

If we find out BayouFann and Hornetguru both perished on the same day, a lot of things will make sense.

I could be making this up, but isn't Byron Mullens a free agent this off-season?

He's pretty solid, got a nice skill set (solid defense, got range on his jump shot, decent rebounder), young, and would be cheap.

If that's the case, sign Dorell Wright or Martell Webster and draft a C like Len or see if we can get one for cash like Nogueira or Jaiteh.

It may actually be easier to sign Andrew Bynum this offseason than Pekovik. Would you want to is the question.

He is an RFA this offseason.

Good upside, but I'd question both his maturity and how his knees will hold up in the long-term.

He's been scoped multiple times and has arthritis in his knee to begin with, then has shown extremely poor judgment in his non-basketball activities by fricking up his repaired knee while bowling on his own time.

The question was always going to be whether or not we'd overpay for Pek

The Wolves were always going to offer him a contract, they weren't going to just let him walk. It's just a matter of how much they offer. I don't know that anything has changed for the people that want Pek
