He said this in a post practice media availability response to a question asking him if he's telling people goodbye.

quote:

Karen Loftus @kcloftus 16 hours ago

This entire string of Q&As with Anthony Davis.. "I'm still here. I could possibly be here next year..."

Video clip at the LINK

Is this

1) "Anything can happen" player speak answer
2) He's ready to dig in his heels on Lakers or Bust and ruin trades
3) After watching Jrue carry the team he's having second thoughts if the Pels manage to win the lottery

I cannot wait to watch the Boston or New York media criticize AD next year. It’s going to be enjoyable to watch him crumble.

This.

Same as his, "every team is on my list," nonsense at the all star break. Somehow, some people took that to mean he was now open to going to Boston. When all it really meant was that he knows he can't control where he's traded, only where he'd re sign.

I've said it before, but I still expect another media blitz from Rich Paul at some point before the draft. They aren't just going to give up on him going to LA. I'd put money on interviews with Rachel Nichols and/or Chris Haynes saying he'd only re sign in LA, trying to screw any leverage we have to get a great deal elsewhere.

It's not only AD but the Pels in general and even Joel Meyers in broadcasts have been selling this narrative of, "If we don't get a great offer, we will just keep him next year."

I am sure the Pels brass is telling Rich Paul this so he gets in teams ears to offer as much as they can to get AD out. It's a pure leverage play and nobody should have a glimmer of hope that AD has reversed course and is now open to staying

It stood out in part because it feels more helpful than it should be.

I couldn't even finish watching that video clip it got me so disgusted thinking about how he just casually threw this entire year of his prime in the shitter. I'm not saying I wouldn't take AD back under any circumstances, but I'm beyond ready to move on. It would probably take winning a top 4 pick and finding the right trade partner for an AD Pels team to be better than a "What We Traded AD for" Pels team.

David Stern is coming back to get us the first pick...AD is going to be begging to stay and be Zion's wing man

probably unpopular at this point in time, but with the high draft pick and new mgmt coming in that will allegedly not be reporting to the Saints mgmt could convince him to sign.

We would still need an Alpha on the team, tho :(

This. Him, Rich Paul and LeBron James aren't giving up on him winding up with LA. I wouldn't be surprised if the NBA rigs the draft to give the Lakers the top pick or at least top 3 so that all sides can be happy.

He's not going to be with us next season though. I no longer think the Boston trade is going to work out the way we are hoping though.

AD unintentionally did us a massive favor by tanking this season in January. In order:

- The media criticizing the Pelicans really forced Gayle to wake up and review our organizational structure. No more Loomis. We actually have a basketball structure being put in place! How long have we been complaining about that on this board as arguably our biggest problem?

- It really exposed the Lakers and potentially put this "Lakers or bust" idea that was likely in AD's head to bed.

- Allowed us to tank and see what we have in some of the other fringe NBA players. Also, really let us hit the reset button on the roster, get what we could for Niko and start picking up some projects.

- Better draft pick. This could end up vaulting into a more important position, but right now, I'll put this here unless we get lucky.

I’d trade him to Golden State for a bag of onions before I let him mope around our facility for 5 minutes next year.

by the way...

i dont think you can build a real contender with a 35%/$40MM player on your roster...UNLESS in the next CBA they do something with the supermax like make it only 50% cap deductive (taxes still apply)

until then, no thanks

I don’t think that’s a true statement at all.
