AD Injury
From Jen hale:

quote:

Latest on AD: that left ankle is swelling significantly. The @PelicansNBA will know more after they see how the plane ride back to Nola affects that ankle. MRI scheduled already for tomorrow.

Not the best news. Hopefully swelling goes down and he can play Friday.

re: AD Injury
That’s what happens after you sprain an ankle. It’s not a surprise

Unfortunately we have to wait and see what the ankle does tomorrow. I highly doubt he plays on Friday

re: AD Injury
I’ve rolled my ankle coming down with a rebound more times than I care to remember. I never experienced a high ankle sprain or any significant injury, but the majority of times it resulted in minor swelling and I could play the next day with it taped. My personal experience is obviously not comparable to an elite NBA guy, but I am hoping that Jen was exaggerating a bit and the MRI shows this is a run of the mill sprain that keeps him out at most 1 game.

We will have to wait for the MRI.

As an amateur basketball player, my sprained ankles take a week or two to get over. However, I do not tape my ankles, wear proper footwear, am not an elite athlete, and do not have instant medical attention...I think he plays through it.

Ankle sprain recovery time is impossible to predict.

Could be a day, could be months.

re: AD Injury
Just watching the video and watching him walk off afterward, I would be surprised if he missed significant time. The swelling thing happens regardless of the severity in my experience. I think him skipping the next game no matter what would be in everyone’s best interest though.

Yes I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night!

re: AD Injury
Him walking off doesn't really show much except that he didn't break it. The thing with ankle sprains is the swelling and pain that comes after the adrenaline wears off.

re: AD Injury
A bad ankle sprain wouldn't be able to be walked on the way he was running on it/ walked off the court.

Don't think it's a high sprain, I think he plays Friday. If not only misses 1 game.

re: AD Injury
It has more to do with when you stop putting weight on it. They are getting an MRI because they want to know exactly what grade this sprain (is the ATF ligament stretched, slightly torn, or completely torn) and are there any other ligaments that have been damaged (for example deltoid ligament damage would not be good)

If you keep you shoe tied tight and keeping standing on your foot, you don’t allow as much blood flow for your ankle to swell and most people can continue to walk on it. Once you get off of it is when you get to see how bad it is.

I’m glad AD didn’t push it because this is an injury that can linger and can get worse (doesn’t always get worse) if you continue to play on it

re: AD Injury
If they are concerned enough that he needs an MRI, I would imagine he is going to miss at least some time.

I remember when Kobe sprained his ankle and it was anounced he would miss several weeks, then he was back in a couple days. Steph missed a couple weeks after an MRI this season with a Grade 1 sprain and yet Alrdige only missed 1 game after leaving in their loss to us.

I think AD avoided a high ankle sprain and his absence will be days, not weeks.
