man i wish every puff piece on new orleans didnt start with "laissez les bon temps rouler". i have never in my life heard anyone in new orleans use that phrase in conversation. it is most definitely NOT "what we always say"

The city can claim love of its teams but only really spends money on winners. The "Saints embrace" has only occurred the last 18 or so years. We tasted some winning with early Haslet years, it fell apart (and attendance dropped) and theyve been a sustained winner since Katrina. People don't care about Brees because he has a great smile and donates money to city efforts, he's beloved because he wins.
If AD had won, he'd have been loved, but he couldn't carry a team beyond a one series win that was largely on the back of Jrue Holiday.
But it's disingenuous to not say the city had the same hope about AD as we do now about Zion. When the Hornets won the 2012 draft lottery, men cried and hailed AD as a franchise savior. That event also pushed ticked sales and hope to highs.

Marketing an athlete/sports team in New Orleans is so easy. All you have to do is convince your players to at least pretend they love New Orleans, even if they don’t. The city goes nuts over people who love the city.
Step One: hold a press conference and say how you always wanted to play in New Orleans and that you grew up a Saints fan. Even if you’re from Seattle. Say you can’t wait to get to know the city and be a part of something special here.
Step Two: do some parades and public appearances. Do lots of autographs and pictures and talk about how much you love everybody here.
Step Three: in season, make sure you say how you want to represent New Orleans and put a winner on the court for the people of this town. Every interview.
Even if you don’t really mean it, you will be a legend in NOLA. An ounce of lip service equals a ton of support in New Orleans.
The problem is, so many players can’t or won’t even give that ounce. And they wonder why they’re miserable. Looking at you, AD, you unmarketable toad.

It was ok at best, basically a typical ESPN piece on New Orleans. It had all the stereotypical New Orleans cliches, "House of the Rising Sun" instrumental music, swamps, crawfish, Hurricane Katrina (which happened almost fifteen years ago), white trash cajuns, etc.
ETA: "We will rise!!"

To be fair, they weren't in New Orleans at the beginning of the video. They were in "Cajun Country".
Now, why were they in Kaplan? I have no clue, but that's where they were.

was that the St. Thomas More basketball coach Danny Broussard in the opening clip?
Posted on 6/18/19 at 12:38 pm to cgrand
Whenever I stop in Kaplan, people are laissez les bon temps roulering all over the place.

Yes, that was Danny Broussard they were talking to in the beginning of the video.

AD was always a bit standoffish and just has no personality whatsoever.
I remember even when we drafted him Monty saying he was a quiet kid. You also could tell from his commercials and stuff he was kinda stoic and uncomfortable.
A guy like him needs a big market to transcend basketball

If Zion will be visible at Saints games and even LSU games, it could be a huge rise in attendance. We want someone to support who loves us back. Football is king here so he needs to use that to boost his image and build the fan base.
Pelicans need a visible superstar with personality. Jrue is great and he is quiet for the right reasons. But he is no freak of nature that brings the casual fans into the mix.
