Unless I'm missing something, Charlotte took on an extra year of Moz salary (19-20) and two seconds to maybe make sure they duck the tax in 18-19? (Nets have a bunch of extra 2nds). Absolutely brutal. Great deal for the Nets.
They are too bad to be in the tax and they are in the tax because they have several terrible contracts.
Assuming the Pels resign Boogie, Brooklyn becomes an interesting mid season trade partner if things go sideways. Boogie/Hill for Dwight/Carroll. Who says no assuming it's about Boogie's attitude/fit and not his injury?

If the trade is due to attitude/fit and not health, that is a terrible return for Boogie especially if the Pels sell it as a fit issue.
If we are trading Boogie, I don’t want to bring on another center making big money and I don’t view Carrol as a big upgrade despite his decent year on a bad team. I still strongly believe that someone like Muscala gives us everything we need in a C if we are parting ways with Demarcus.

I was thinking Solo/Ajinca for Crabbe. Saves the Nets $7M for their summer of 2019 trying to sign 2 max contracts. I would think they don't have a problem sucking it up this year again since they have their first round pick next year. They can make a top 10 pick, and potentially sign 2 max contracts that offseason.

Crabbe would be interesting but that contract is hard to swallow. He's, at least, playable and can shoot so I'll give you that.

Remember when it was posted here that Dell was considering two 1sts for Dwight? Good times, good times.

Dwight Howard and Brooklyn will negotiate a buyout to enter free-agency, league sources tell ESPN.

Sources: Franchise star Nikola Jokic expected to agree on five-year, $146.5M max deal with the Nuggets after team option is declined.
I believe his max would start out a little over $25 million, but that's enough to make them a tax team without some moves. In the event that Boogie walks and you can get a trade exception out of it, Denver could be looking to give Wilson Chandler away for free. Also of potential Pels interest, if they are a tax team I have to think that limits how much they'd be willing to pay to keep Will Barton. Does that make Barton for the taxpayer MLE an option for the Pels?

No pels offseason thread would be complete without a Wilson Chandler reference.

How much is Denver in the tax?
If they are trying hard to avoid it, could we do something like Moore/Miller for Chandler and a 1st? Denver would save a little money on it, and they could cut Miller if they wanted to and save a bit more, but it would also allow them to not have to sign Barton if they get Moore. Could make it Diallo instead of Miller, or just some other unguaranteed salary filler to make the trade work.

yep and that’s a game changer
no more buying up non-gtd contracts to aggregate in trades

Nuggets will have 13 players guaranteed (including Michael Porter, Jr.) for $133M, about $10M over the luxury tax threshold upon execution of the contract.
So about $10M into the tax.

For a team that's not even a lock to make the playoffs. Faried was already an expensive bench big and spending $30 million on Millsap turned Plumlee into an expensive bench big. The Pels will have competition for dumping contracts to get under the tax. A 1st might not be enough to dump Solo/Ajinca at the deadline and get under the tax. You might have to dump someone you want to keep like Moore or Mirotic to find a taker.

Adrian Wojnarowski @wojespn The Spurs are fully engaged in trade talks with several teams on Kawhi Leonard, including the Lakers and Celtics, league sources tell ESPN. Boston has long had the assets that the Spurs most covet in a potential Leonard trade.

Adrian Wojnarowski @wojespn Boston's extremely cautious on Leonard front. There's so much uncertainty w/ Leonard's future -- health, free agent desires, etc. Will Leonard be same player? That's hard to tell. Celtics don't have to make a risky trade and have no intention to do so. It's an interesting dance.

This doesn't guarantee Kawhi Leonard is going to the Lakers this week -- since San Antonio could always trade him elsewhere and/or drag things out -- but league sources say of the Spurs: "They're ready" to move on from Kawhi
Sounds like Kawhi trade could go down any day now. They are negotiating like crazy with these leaks. Difficult to keep up now:
"Pressure is on Lakers to trade for Kawhi"
"Boston and Lakers are in talks for Kawhi"
"Boston will be cautious"
"Kawhi may not want to play with Lebron"

From a SAS point of view, I think you have to pull the trigger. The Lakers are desperate at least according to the chatter we are hearing and they are primed to overpay for Leonard. I'd take advantage of that if I'm in the Spurs FO.
I'd be cautious if I was in Boston. Why change anything? You will have Kyrie & Hayward coming back to a team that just made the ECF. And you know Leonard wants to be in LA. Why risk trading one or both of your young guys?

I don't think Boston is seriously in discussions. I think Ainge is letting SA leak their interest to drive up the price on the Lakers. This is just a public negotiation between SA and the Lakers.
