dont know but I know it aint no damn queer arse Garth Brooks song

Probably already said but Friends In Low Places might literally be the greatest country song of all time as far as notoriety and basic country lyrics, regardless of how people feel about Garth.
Hell, Mark Chesnutt recorded it the same year he did, though way different

Varies wildly. My old country Playlist is about 20 hours long.

He stopped loving her today isnt my favorite possum song. The Door is my favorite.

Greatest ever? Tell Lorri I Love Her is a damn solid submission.

This was one of my Dad’s favorite songs and it definitely gets me teared up when I hear it.

The Meters version is also pretty solid if you’re into their stuff at all.

Why is it “He Stopped Loving Her Today?”

It’s not this one, though it’s a good one.

I find “Still doin time” by George Jones to be a better song

There’s so many great ones I can’t decide. Some of my favorites

The Highwayman - the highwaymen

Pancho and Lefty - Willie and Waylon

Seven Spanish Angels - Willie and Ray Charles

Pocket Full of Gold - Vince Gill

Wherever you go, there you are - Clint Black

The Conversation - Hank jr and Waylon

There’s a ton of great country songs for different reasons but to me the lyrics of these go way deeper or paint a great story/picture than most others

You are correct.

“He Stopped Loving Her Today” is the greatest country song of all time.

How the frick has no one said, "Sunday Morning Coming Down"?

For real!

Misery and Gin, Blue Eyes Cryin’ In The Rain, Luckenbach. All contenders.

George Strait is his own category. Most would say Amarillo By Morning, but Run just stops me in my tracks every time.

Always been a fan of, “This cowboy’s hat” by Chris LeDoux

"You'll ride a black tornado 'cross the western sky
You'll rope an ol' blue northern, and milk it 'til it's dry
Bulldog the Mississippi and pin its ears down flat
Long before you take this cowboy's hat“

This thread is useless without
“Are the good times really over”
Merle Haggard

I wish a buck was still silver and it was back when the country was strong.
Back before Elvis and before the Vietnam war came along.
Before the Beatles and yesterday when a man could still work and still would.
Is the best of the free life behind us now and are the good times really over for good?

Are we rollin' downhill like a snowball headed for hell?
With no kind of chance for the flag or the liberty bell?
I wish a Ford or a Chevy would still last ten years like they should.
Is the best of the free life behind us now and are the good times really over for good?

I wish Coke was still cola and a joint was a bad place to be.
It was back before Nixon lied to us all on TV.
Before Microwave ovens when a girl could still cook, and still would.

Stop rollin' downhill like a snowball headed for hell.
Standup for the flag, and let's all ring the liberty bell.
Let's make a Ford and a Chevy that'll still last ten years like they should...
The best of the free life is still yet to come and the good times ain't really
