On this day in music history: April 4, 1964 - The Beatles make chart history when they become the only act to ever place singles in the top five positions on the Billboard Hot 100 simultaneously. “Can’t Buy Me Love” leaps from #27 to #1, “Twist And Shout” moves up to #2, “She Loves You” (#1 the previous week) falls back to #3, “I Want To Hold Your Hand” slips back two spots to #4 and “Please Please Me” moves down one spot to #5. (In addition to dominating the top five, the band also holds down seven additional spots in that weeks chart.)

The band having multiple singles in release on different labels at the time, make this unprecedented chart dominance possible, and to date, has never been duplicated by another recording artist, even in the streaming era.

Heck of a lineup

I believe that's Wilson Pickett w/The Falcons... And is that Gladys Knight w/The Pips?

That’s not Nancy’s mom, it’s her Aunt Fritzi.

Presumably, she’s single. Although dating her would be problematic with that creepy Sluggo kid always hanging around.

When/where was this pic taken? Looks to be the mid 70s.

While I had the distinct pleasure of seeing BB live several times between 1977 and 1984, I only caught the Killer’s act twice: the first time in 1978, at the Old South Jamboree in Walker, LA (unfortunately the show was cut extremely short when he was kicked off the stage for drunkenness and profanity - an event described in the pages of Nick Tosches excellent Lewis biography Hellfire), and not again until almost 20 years later at a music festival in Pensacola.

I can only imagine the two of them together.

1910. Dame Nellie Melba was the most acclaimed opera diva of the day. Curiously, two foods were named after her by chef Auguste Escoffier: Peach Melba (fattening) and Melba toast (for dieters)

Possibly the first promotional ad for Jerry Lee Lewis, hyping his first single. Enthusiastic if kinda semi-professional.
