SELF -- The Varsity, BR; 1999

That's disappointing to here but also glad I didn't go. I've always wanted to see them but I won tickets from KLSU to see G. Love at the Howlin Wolf in New Orleans the same night they were at the Varsity. I never heard any feedback on that show until now.

G. Love, I left at 2:30 a.m. and they were still playing. I had to drive back to B.R. I have no idea when they stopped playing. They played till 2:20 a.m. in the Varstiy one night until the Varsity shut their power off.

Best show:

1998 I think

I saw Incubus/System of a Down for $12.00 at the Varsity. Best value EVER!! I got word SOAD was going to be good before hand. I bought their CD that night.

Worst:
Wasn't so much the show as it was just a bad overall night.

Phunk Junkeez, Kottonmouth Kings, Sprung Monkey, and Corporate Avengers.

I carted a bunch of good friends of mine to the House of Blues for this show. Figuring this show could not disappoint being that some of my friends were not the biggest of concert goers.

We are running late for the show and everyone is just taking their time and I'm on everyone's arse to hurry up. They're getting pissed at me. We get there and we missed Phunk Junkeez, the one band I thought everyone could agree on.

Corporate Avengers (I wasn't familiar with them at the time) comes out and scares the shite out of everyone I'm with. Girlfriend was pissed that I thought she would like them. Man it was bad. I figured a bunch of mosh pitting pot heads (if that makes sense) would be there but I myself was not ready for Corporate Avengers.
I'm telling this from a point of view that I have seen Marliyn Manson and The Impotant Seasnakes for a total of less than $20.00 so I've seen some shite go down in concert.

Anyway I break away from the gf to go to the pit because she's bitching up a storm. Some **** is standing on the edge of the pit just hitting people in the face when they come by. We've all seen this guy. So I go by and shove him into the pit where some guy bust his arse. This pussy then swings around from behind me and hits me with a beer bottle and splits my eye open. I couldn't see shite. Missed all of Kottonmouth Kings and had to get sewed up in Tulane hospital.

The Nixons headlined that show. I don't remember Incubus playing.

It wasn't so much Van Morrison's performance, which was ok(I've seen better by him), but it was the heat, the company I was with..and the drunk fools throwing up on our stuff...etc. NOT a good time.

Must have been a different show. I remember seeing The Nixons but I can't remember with who.

The night I'm talking about Dial 7 opened up, then SOAD, and Incubus headlined. I remember Incubus being interviewed that day by KLSU

Maybe SOAD played the varsity twice. I only remember them opening for The Nixons in 99 I think. I had heard a few of their songs on KLSU but wasn't a huge fan so didn't go.

The Nixons at the Varsity

Check this out. This might ring a bell.

I went to this show. It was OK. I didn't know who Imperial Drag was until I heard him sing this song.

Worst - Chick suffering a bad seizure 2 seats over from me during NIN. I'm guessing the wall of strobe lights was not approved for use with epilepsy.

Best - Hard to say. I've gotten to hang out after shows with a lot of my favorite bands, and that will always stand out. However, I would probably say the most fantastic experience was seeing Porcupine Tree in Atlanta with 8 grams of shrooms pumping through me.

Best: Rage Against The Machine, 1996, Sloss Furnace in Birmingham. One of my favorite bands, phenomenal live show, relatively small venue(1000, maybe 1,500). Downside: definitely not the best show to drop acid.

Worst: Grateful Dead. I don't want to pick on these guys because a lot of people love them, but I was bored to tears. Upside- my 14 year old self caught a glimpse of nubile hippie side boob and armpit hair that remains a difficult-to-google-fetish. Downside: should have took acid.

eta: I forgot that I saw MC Hammer, Smashmouth(USO show, not my fault), and Puddle of Mud. All easily worse than the Dead.

Best: Led Zeppelin, BR '77, Bruce Springsteen, BR, '78

Worst: Aerosmith, BR, '78. Sound quality was horrendous and Steven Tyler and Joe Perry were so fried they could hardly stand up.

I"m amending my prior best experience.

STS9 at Bonnaroo 2011.

This would have been amazing regardless of whether or not I may or may not have been rolling my nuts off. I bought the set off their website, and have listened to it many times while not rolling my nuts off just for confirmation on this point. Not that I was rolling my nuts off during the show or anything.

Best: Zac Brown at the MS Coast Colliseum this past fall (they put on an awesome show - don't hate); Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers at UNO sometime around 2001 I believe - Foo were badass live

Worst: Jimmy Page and Robert Plant at UNO around 2000ish I think. Just seemed not into at all. Page played every solo with so much distortion you couldnt distinguish them from each other. And they refused to play Stairway.

Best: Springsteen - 78 and 80 Assembly Center
Violent Femmes - 86ish - VFW hall in BR

Worst - Foreigner 79ish, lots of equipment issues that Cheap Trick didn't experience so we left midshow.
Bob Dylan about 10 years ago- he's definitely not "Forever Young"

Oddest: ZZ Top 75 at Tulane Stadium: Riot Police called in when Lynard Skynard didn't show.
