Was cleaning through some my old shite today and I came across my old boombox. Been bumping nothing but Debbie Deb, Freestyle, Newcleus, Egyptian Lover, Johnny O, etc. all day today. Today’s music doesn’t have shite on what we used to have in the 80’s...

I knew as the 80's were happening that the music of that decade was special.

Now the movie scene...not so much! Not if you going frame it with John Hughes movies, and the Brat Pack.

Roadhouse makes eighties films worthwhile all by itself.

If you’re talking about Sugar Hill Gang meet me at Sonic.

ETA: Didn’t see you said “the shite”.

I watched Amadeus the other night, and for me that was the best the decade had to offer.

Splitting hairs maybe, but I always considered freestyle to be less hip hop and more of a singing style. Debbie Deb-- sure. As would be:

Noel - Silent Morning

Egyptian Lover & Newcleus were more more electro-hop (or electro funk... something like that), along the lines of:

Planet Rock

Hashim - Al Naafiysh (The Soul)

Was a fun time regardless.

Lord yes!

You rarely hear about these guys today, but they were absolute kings of night club music in the 80's.

I’ve heard that song at least 500 times and until today when you posted the picture of the .45 of “What gets your body hyped” I’ve always thought it was “What gets your body hard”!!!

Hell yea. We had a teen club in Hammond, monopoly’s, and all of these would be bumping there. Friday night was strolling the mall, but Saturday night..no, Saturday night was hose down in og Polo or Obsession, tight roll the z cav’s or gibeauds and get mom’s to bring you up to monopoly’s. Start the night off with arm wrestling followed up by getting wild on the dance floor to kyper or Debbie deb with jr high honey du jour.

And if I were grounded or for whatever reason couldn’t make it to monopoly’s on Saturday night...I was concocting a reason to not go to school come Monday. To hell with that

I was off in bootcamp when most of my buddies were going to The Kingfish. But in a similar thread many years ago, I think it was CDawg (to try and give credit) who mentioned the playlist from Houston's Club 6400. It's quite the rabbit hole...
