I was looking at IMDB trivia while watching this the other night. I never knew that Aerosmith got the song title "Walk This Way" from the gag at the beginning of this movie. Cool.

Bump. I just saw an advertisement that says they're replaying it this Tuesday and Thursday.

He did the same thing in Men in Tights

LINK

Getting back to Young Frankenstein though, Mel pretty much got Wilder's start

quote:

Wilder had done extensive stage work, studying with acting icon Lee Strasberg and rooming with improv guru Del Close, but he didn’t make the leap to screen until the late ’60s. While working with Anne Bancroft in a stage production, he was introduced to her husband, Mel Brooks. They hit it off and Brooks said that Wilder would be perfect for a lead role in what eventually became The Producers. In the three years in-between that conversation and the audition, Wilder took a small part in Bonnie and Clyde, but it was Brooks who saw that he could be a star. Willy Wonka, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, and a series of films with Richard Pryor followed, cementing Gene Wilder’s place in history.

Also, Mel Brooks pretty much started Dave Chappelle's career as well..

quote:

Comedian Dave Chappelle was only 20-years-old when Brooks chose him to star as Ahchoo in 1993’s Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Just having graduated college and working as a comedian, this was Chappelle’s big break — his first film role. The exposure indicated he was someone to watch, leading to additional film roles and the legend that is Chappelle’s Show. All because Brooks needed someone to play the Morgan Freeman role in a Robin Hood spoof.

quote:

ESQ: That feeling you had about Richard, was it the same for when you cast Dave Chappelle in Robin Hood: Men in Tights? MB: Absolutely. I knew Dave was the guy. I had seen a hundred guys but Dave had a presence. He basically said, I'm not afraid of this shite. I'm not afraid of the camera. I am who I am. And that was so evident in his attitude. And when we were doing the movie he didn't know he had a sweetness in him, he is the sweetest kid. He was the perfect sidekick for the hero. In fact, off-camera he and Cary Elwes hung out a lot together.

What blows my mind is Barry Levinson was the bellboy in High Anxiety going all crazy.. and now he's a pretty famous director. He got his start on Mel Brooks' Silent Movie, then High Anxiety, then History of the World Part 1.. but seriously he was so wild in High Anxiety it blows my mind how his career turned out. He was a talented comedic writer though that helped on some of those movies I believe.

Some people may not recognize this, but Brooks was one of the lead producers of The Elephant Man, as well as The Fly.

Sorry, the trivia guy inspired me. I really enjoy Mel Brooks and his movies.
