X-Men: Dark Phoenix
Posted by keakar on 5/18/22 at 6:41 pm012
just rewatched this today
search shows it was never talked about here at all
just curious what others thought about how confusing it was compared to the other x-men movies because dark phoenix they were all young and raven was the older one, yet in all the other movies raven was the youngest of the group
also they kill off raven and seems like gene as well yet a very much older gene was already long dead having been killed by logan in the other x-men movie (cant remember which one) so there was so much WTF in this movie it was hard to ignore and just watch the story.
did i miss it somewhere that gene came back to life on another movie to be around in all the other movies?

She was never a good actress yet she was fine at portraying a weak, pitiful character. As soon as they tried to make her into some sort of heroine, it stopped working. She was so bad in Phoenix although everything about it was horrible so it’s not as much her fault.
I didn't see it until after I had seen all the comments here. After seeing all the comments here, it was a better movie than I expected. Just not a serious movie. Probably took itself too seriously. But it was definitely less of a disappointment after seeing what everyone else thought about it. The franchise making too much of Mystique/Jennifer Lawrence annoyed me more than anything Sansa did.
A disappointing ending to a series reboot that occasionally showed some promise early on.
It’s pretty convoluted but in Days of Future Past, the timeline gets reset so technically in the new timeline, Jean Gray doesn’t go Dark Phoenix crazy and get killed by Wolverine. Allowing them to do THIS version of Dark Phoenix which was way worse.
Unfortunately, now that Disney owns the rights to X-Men I wouldn’t expect much better.

The best part was when she killed Raven then they named the school after her and not founding student she killed.

It's the thing I don't get about movie studios. You already had the best storyboard and dialogue written for you. Why they decide to take popular comic storylines and "make them their own" I will never know.
The 2 part X-Men issue where they fight the Shi'ar Imperial Guard on the moon is one of the best comics ever. Still a great read today.

It was truly awful. I wish I hadn't watched.
ETA: It is pitiful that Hollywood can't pull off the Phoenix Saga.

We see them hijacking other's work for ideology for sure. I guess rhey feel the need to justify themselves to make it their own

She wasn't the lead in Dark Phoenix and she was so sick of putting on body makeup at that point she had them kill her off in the first third of the movie.
The main issue w/DP was Fox got scared over how badly Singer botched Apocalypse and as a result changed DP from a 2 part movie to a single movie right before they started shooting.
