I like much of Wes's quirkiness but this looks over the edge even for me.

I know I can go on google and read about it but just based off the commercial trailers I have watched on TV, I honestly have zero clue about WTF this movie is about lol

This will be incredible just like his last just like his last just like his last……

Wes makes good and certainly unique movies in a time of extreme blandness in Hollywood.

Have any of his movies ever made money? Or broke even?

Hollywood must love him. Not many directors would be allowed to have so many box office flops and yet keep having all their projects greenlit.

He still can get big names to want to be in his movies. And I doubt any of them cost a lot to make.

Used to be a big Anderson fan but haven't seen anything of his since Mr. Fox which is a close second to Rushmore as my favorites of his. I talked to a friend of mine who was his biggest fan and got me hooked with Bottle Rocket, and even he is over Wes Anderson's schtick.

I just saw that Isle of Dogs is on Disney+. Might have to check it out. I'm a sucker for stop motion.

Grand Budapest was great. Prob my fav of his, but I admittedly haven't seen all of them and honestly don't have the desire

From the trailers I've seen it's something I am not interested in seeing.

Well you missed out. Grand Budapest is probably his best film, and I like several others that have come out since Fox.

However, his last, French Dispatch, was just a mess. I did not like it at all, it reeked of Wes needing someone to reel him in a bit and tell him "No". It was peak New York film elite bubble sniffing your own farts. Just was not a fan at all.

This looks better but also like he needed to be reeled in.

I do respect someone that has been able to make their style so unique, that after 100+ years of filmmaking industry he basically has his own genre to himself.

Just to let you know, you've probably seen some of if not several of his films. He's probably one of the most famous and recognizable "artistic" filmmakers alive.

Rushmore, Royal Tennenbaums, Life Aquatic, Fantastic Mr Fox, Grand Budapest Hotel (nominated for best picture), etc etc

His style is holy unique. Very specific color palattes, framing of shots, and the pretty much the same cast of actors recycled again and again. You've also probably seen on Youtube all of the "AI makes a trailer for a fake Wes Anderson remake" like Wes Anderson's Jurassic Park or The Avengers, several of which have been posted on this board.

Not sure how you’ve gone this far with zero awareness of Wes Anderson but all you need to know is you should check it out and the rest of his movies

I get Wes Anderson isn’t for everyone, but anyone who’s a fan of movies at all should root for strong and distinctive directors getting full reign to make their vision on a unique story. We need more of this. Covid has seemingly reinvigorated the older director generations to really start putting in work on that front and I hope that continues and my bigger hope is this allows young directors to be able to continue to do that and not all get scooped into the Disney/DC machines and neutering their style and point of view

The people who hate Wes Anderson movies get really stuck on the style and the whimsy of it all, but all of that is just excellent craftsmanship built around what is typically a very emotional and well written (and funny) script.

The thing that always gets me is that he is able to create emotion not through the actors. He always has actors play almost as if they are all on valium, pretty flat, but some of the films get pretty emotional

I love the set pieces and the camera stuff he does is amazing obviously, but his moves stick with me from the dialogue and interpersonal moments between the characters, who are typically in a dysfunctional or totally broken family

Royal Tennebaums and Grand Budapest especially. That scene at the end between Stiller and bill Murray in RT is so understated but cuts deep
