I never got around to listening to the whole podcast series on The Ringer, but the first edition of Bill Simmons' Music Box series for HBO is covering Woodstock 99:

Trailer

I love watching the live performances from that event, so it'll be interesting to see the carnage from the other side

The media tried painting Fred Durst responsible for the riots and rapes, but the blood is clearly on the hands of the event promoters. No access to basic utilities like water and restrooms plus over packing the event with too many people. The entire thing was a cluster frick beyond comprehension.

One of the GOATS.

I had a friend that went to it. Said it was a great time for the most part, but also a shite show of epic proportions.

“They we’re charging 4 dollars for a bottle of water. Which is insane”

I get inflation and all that but that’s a cheap stadium price now

I think JerryWorld sells water at $8-9 a bottle now, but I think the heat and environment there made it more of an issue as well

Can't expect fans of Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit to exist in the same sport and there not be chaos

Trying to make money off of this, even after 20+ years is just as disgusting as the sh*tty event in the first place. Remember kids, corporate America stole your youth, your prospects for the future, and your money.

Rage on against the machine.

I think it was that LSU - South Carolina game that got moved to TS a few years back I remember seeing the water signs have a crossed out 3 dollars written on and they marked it up to like 7-8 because it was legit one of the hottest days I’ve ever lived through. It felt like something that should be illegal

Which the promoters and the National Guard assisted with in '68, but I don't think the 90's Woodstock promoters were as altruistic. At the height of the Vietnam war you had military Hueys flying in to drop off supplies and to remove the sick and injured hippies. Big difference from the MTV Woodstock Pay-Per-View fiasco.

Lot less use of cards back then. That was a lot of cash in your muddy arse pockets for water
