Wonder Woman 1984 is not a sequel according to producer
quote:

One of the biggest mysteries surrounding Wonder Woman 1984 has been how exactly Steve Trevor returns from the dead. Well, based on a new report from Vulture, it sounds like we may not get any sort of explanation as director Patty Jenkins reportedly sees the movie as less of a sequel to what's come before, and more of a standalone story similar to the James Bond franchise.

According to producer Charles Roven, "[Jenkins] was just determined that this movie should be the next iteration of Wonder Woman but not a sequel. And she’s definitely delivering on that. It’s a completely different time frame and you’ll get a sense of what Diana-slash–Wonder Woman had been doing in the intervening years. But it’s a completely different story that we’re telling."

Hang on, that definitely sounds like a sequel, right? It feels like Roven is majorly contradicting himself but the site adds that sources have told them this installment in the Wonder Woman franchise avoids the trappings of most sequels and is a "stand-alone film in the same way that Indiana Jones or Bond films are, instead of one continuous story that requires many installments."

The first Wonder Woman was a good film until the last 20 minutes went full on bad CGI-fest. Not sure what they are trying to do here but I will hold out until I see a trailer to figure more.

This is so dumb.

So, they are bringing back a guy who died in the first film. Then this new film is going to be a "completely different time frame" about different years, with a different story? And then they are just not going to explain how he lived from the first movie? Or explain the timeline in relation to the first movie?

The guy is obviously a producer who is not closely involved with the story process and is trying his best to spin the movie. Jenkins has said repeatedly that the movie will stand on its own as a film and not as a bridge to a third installment. It doesn’t mean that they’re ignoring the first movie and starting over.

Would be nice if people didn’t start threads based on clickbait articles.

i'm sure he's going to be a figment on her imagination. i memory.

eta: if he was still alive at his current age, he'd been alive in batman v superman and justice league. unless he's a time traveler and dies again in this film too.

the fight with Aries was far worse than most other comic movie fight scenes (especially in the MCU).

WW was good, but there was a bit too much panning camera superhero posing for me TBH.

Good. Like Bond and Mission Impossible you don't technically have to see the last one to understand this one. Each one is a mostly new mission.

How they explain Trevor, I don't know.

It's not a bad idea, but it shows how hare brained and disorganized the big picture development is with the dc universw

They jettisoned the big picture universe. Which is why Aquaman did a billion, Shazam is getting rave reviews, and Jenkins gets to make her movie instead of another sequel.

When they first started talking about it, I thought the "new guy" was a relative of the guy in the first film.
Remember, we're going from 1918 to 1984, almost 70 yrs in that stretch. So even if he survived the first film, he'd be in his 90's in this one.

I've seen old pictures where somebody is a dead ringer for their great uncle and things like that. I imagine since Diana just keeps living on, she'd likely run into such things.
I'm guessing that the plot twist will be that she's freaked out majorly when she sees "new" Steve, and that she decides she has to protect this one. And he's going to think:
1 wow, this is one fine and exotic chick that is after me
2 she's kinda crazy

Since this board was spreading rumors about pre-premiere Wonder Woman being a mess and a disaster and it turned out fine, I’m gonna trust Jenkins to deliver a good movie.
