Don't think I'm ready for a Hispanic Thomas Magnum. Think I would rather see reruns of original show.

based on the wealth of information provided by the OP you can mark me down as a hard "maybe".

Never heard of it.

And ... NO.

There is only one Thomas Magnum ... and that is Tom Selleck.

Is Tom Selleck in it as Magnum? If not, then put me down as a no.

What's with all the reboots of 80s shows anyways? Granted, most of the new original stuff sucks, but still...

I have heard they are going to heavily “diversify” the cast but I haven’t seen any casting info yet. I will wait and see but fail to see how they can compete with the original. Why can’t they just do an update version with old cast handing off things to a new generation?

Or... you know... just do a different show altogether.

The original cast included a black guy and a bunch of Asians and Polynesians, so a diverse cast wouldn't be anything new.

Or at least the voice of Robin Masters.

I keep seeing instances of this. Why don't they have original shows and movies with diverse casts? Why is that not good enough? Is there an agenda at play or were there really other races and ethnicities sitting around watching these shows in the eighties wishing someone like Thomas Magnum was a black chick or latino?

And if you are doing that, then make that show. Make a show about a PI in Hawaii working for a billionaire. Make the PI a hispanic black transvestite muslim whose had two sex changes and is now married to himself. Just don't remake Magnum and make THAT thing the main character. Make it it's own dang show.

No agenda.

Basing a program on a previously successful show gives you instant name recognition and a leg-up on the competition.

Today, programs are expected to have reasonably diverse casts. The days of all white, predominantly male casts are gone (with the exception of some historical vehicles).

Recognizable name + diverse cast = broad audience appeal.

Since Magnum already had a semi-diverse cast, I'd guess that the "big change" would be the addition of a woman or two to the previously all-male regulars.

i'm shocked its not a woman playing the lead and them reaching out to Tom Selleck to play a bumbling Robin that she has to constantly bail out of trouble.
