re: Will Stillwater get Damon an Oscar nod?
As long as he doesn’t blurt shite out in interviews that might get him cancelled like he did earlier this week, he could get a nom.

I'm curious what made him stand out to you to where he would get an nomination?

A nod for The Last Duel, a fall release with serious Oscar hopes, is more likely than one for Stillwater. Though Jodie Comer and Affleck in his supporting role would be safer bets than Damon. Lead actor is always tough to break into.

Haven't seen stillwater yet, so I'm not commenting on its quality or that Damon's performance in it, but an acting nod for a summer drama with a mixed-to-tepid reception that didnt/won't make much noise at the box office would be surprising. Possible? Yes. Likely? No.

If it were 15-20 yrs ago, he'd be a lock for a nomination (even though I thought his performance was not that special and he under-acted his arse off), but that's beside the point.

Thats the type of film that would have been an Oscar darling in the past, but not anymore. Everything is so politically driven and pandering that he won't even be a blip in the radar this year.

BTW, what did Damon say this week that pissed off the Twitter bots?

Told a story about it was only recently (last few years) that his daughter convinced him to stop using the f-word.(No, not that f-word. The other f-word.)

He was telling it as a story of him becoming enlightened. But a lot of people are taking him to task for only "recently" dropping the word from his vocabulary.

It was pretty stupid to not see how that was going to turn out poorly for him but following it up with saying he's never said that word before is probably dumber.

It's always the apology tour that makes it worse. Somehow, celebrities can't help but dig their hole deeper.

quote:

...Matt Damon is insisting that he has never used the “f-slur” following backlash from a recent interview.

In an article posted by the U.K.’s Sunday Times, the “Stillwater” star was quoted saying he had stopped using the offensive term “months ago” when his daughter wrote him a “treatise” on “how that word is dangerous.”

But in a statement to Variety, Damon said that he has never used the word in his “personal life” and does not “use slurs of any kind.” He also affirmed that he understands why the interview “led many to assume the worst.” ...

I think he was trying to say he never called someone that to their face. That will make it worse for him, and his friends. That was part of the problem black people had with Rachel Nichols, and even more-so with the ESPN suit she was talking with. The offended people basically said they have to worry about white people talking like that behind their backs. If you read any of the twitter comments, it's like they think all white people talk about them behind their backs. If they read the OT board on TigerDroppings, that way of thinking will be strengthened. There are lots of people on the OT that think everyone thinks like they do.

It's because they don't live in reality. It never occurred to him that sharing the F story might turn out bad, or that saying his daughter wrote a damn treatise would sound pretentious and just plain stupid. If you have to become some sort of method actor to pretend to be a normal working person then the thought processes probably are hard to understand

Dude ever since Trump and Colin Kaepernick, this entire site has become a far-right, Trump slurping, liberal hating, Republican circle jerk. Anyone who posts anything that differs from that gets downvoted to hell.

Any decent, intelligent person who randomly happened to stumble upon this site would freak the frick out about the crazy right-wing lunatic shite that gets said on here. It just entertains me at this point because these jackasses legitimately think they are better, smarter, and not as crazy as the crazies from the other side.

We have one side of crazies that wants to destroy anyone who does or says anything that offends them. We have the other side of crazies who want to ship anyone who doesn’t look like them or agree with them out of the country cause they aren’t real USA loving patriotic Americans. It’s a shite show.

Sometimes when you just say shite with no bad intentions it’s hard to understand that people might react a certain way.

He seems like a guy who has no ill will towards anyone and wants to have honest conversations but hasn’t adjusted to how fricking crazy people are now and honest conversations are nearly impossible, at least in the way he is going about it in public.

It’s like when he was saying basically a woman being uncomfortable with a guy flirting with her is not the same as rape. Just saying there are levels to this shit, which is obviously true.

Then people yelled at him for being a stupid white rich man trying to mansplain something, when what he said was just a fact.

I thought it was him dissing RDJ and inferring that he's a placeholder actor.

Damon could very well have stuck his foot in his mouth twice this week.

Wasn’t talking about myself. I don’t give a shite and you completely missed the point.

Also, like 99% of the whining snowflakes on this site or Republican lunatics.

Does being in that 1% make you feel superior? It seems to, so congrats.

Superior in that he doesn’t understand the difference between “or” and “are”

I see that mistake all the time in Livingston parish. Guess we really are all alike.
