If one is a Christmas movie the other has to be.

Also, is Less than Zero a Christmas movie?

...and Willie Wonka, Batman Returns, Eyes Wide Shut, Steel Magnolias, End of Days, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, In Bruges, Stalag 17, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The French Connection...etc.

All Christmas movies just like Die Hard.

Rambo is a Christmas movie. Seriously when he is blowing up the town towards the end, Christmas lights are up.

I submit that it is. It entire plot revolves around Christmas. Gizmo was a Christmas gift, the Gremlins attack through Christmas trees, decorations, and presents.

Christmas actually moves the plot along.

The same can be said for the beginning of Die Hard. Christmas is THE reason for the entire plot set up. One company party with light security in a huge building and no one else any where. The cops are lax and not around because of the Holidays.

The reason Die Hard is a Christmas Movie is because the entire point of the movie is John McClain wants to see his estranged wife and kids for Christmas. He's flown from NEw York to LA to do so....but Hans Gruber and friends interrupt his trip.

This was not a movie that "happened to take place during Christmas"...it's about a journey "home" (to his family) for Christmas.

Also...the building being empty except for the Christmas party plays heavily into the plot. Also...think of the soundtrack.

It opens with Christmas in Hollis, and also has:

Winter Wonderland;
Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!;
Ode to Joy; and,
Jingle Bells.

That's quite a bit of Christmas music, which reinforces the plot centered around the holiday.

And Christmas is constantly referenced, including in a handful of the best scenes and lines in the movie. Also, the writer said it's a Christmas movie.

Where's the dude who said he was going to get an edit to show Christmas removed.

Still waiting on that...
