I should like this movie.the plot is formulaic but awesome. It’s got pretty good action (even if unrealistic.)The acting is about what you’d expect going into it. But it just isn’t good. Some how the pieces just don’t fit together. Does anyone else feel this way?

I just realized the whole opening scene of tropic thunder is parodying this movies ending

Feel the same way. On the face of it this movie is right in my wheelhouse, but I've never felt the need to watch it again.

I liked it but it was warm up to the woke project.

Yes!
I couldn’t finish it, that was years ago, tried a rewatch a couple years ago, & couldn’t do it.
I really think it’s Bruce Willis, he’s the issue with the movie & I think highly of his acting chops. One of the best action stars ever, but just not a good fit for this role. I don’t know what else it could be, the plot and cast are good.

I always enjoyed the scene where they take that village.

Flea you got the zippo?

yes, by far the best scene in the entire film was the village scene. The last fight scene got a little off the rails

White audiences roll their eyes at soldiers unrealistically defying orders to save a generic group of 3rd world poor black people that would otherwise be killed by other 3rd world military black people.

Black audiences are bored with white saviors.

There aren't many left to give the movie a thumbs up.

Wuh? The two main roles are white and strong AF and most top supporting roles, some legit supporting POC roles. It depicts the massacres in Africa honestly. How was it that?

It’s a 20 year old action movie, you need to slow your expectations. I’ve only seen it once when it first came out and liked it then.

Bruce Willis should’nt have been cast in that roll. He was too old imo. I enjoy the movie but it could’ve been much better

Meh. I liked it. Felt like an updated Wild Geese which I also liked.

The village scene is pretty good.

Might just be me, but I think I like movies like Sicario and Heat because the action is pretty realistic. If I remember right, tears of the sun was pretty outlandish at times.

You don’t remember right. It was pretty much by the book combat. Didn’t pull any punches either a lot of good guys killed.

I don't think we'll see much of that movie anymore. I love me some Richard Burton and Richard Harris but that movie was racist for 1979. It would get crucified today.
