Maybe I should have said "underperforming"

I thought it would easily do over 500 mil, so I agree that it's under performing. However, WB should still turn a small profit and they've set up the sequel with the Rock. That one should be huge.

The movie may be fine, but I have no interest in the character. I think Marvel having their whole universe intertwined is why their lesser known character's movies do well. Just my opinion though.

Yep, plus, Marvel has a much better reputation for consistent quality. Casual fans can figure they'll get an entertaining movie if they go to a Marvel movie even if they don't know the characters.

I don't think Shazam is necessarily doing poorly, though. DC needed good films, because good films beget profits. Some of their flashier films made money without quality. Quality will build a following. A big issue with DC was trying to shortcut that building process to get to event films.

Prediction:

The Joker will get great reviews, will be loved by the M/TV, then dismissed as a failure when it does expected R-Rated/Small-Budget revenue instead of Dark Knight or Endgame box office.

You thought it was going to beat Civil War and Ultron?

No one should expect blockbuster box office numbers from Joker and the M/TV board doesn't love any movie unanimously. There's always some haters.

I was talking about WW. It'll finish at about 400 mil. I thought it would clear over 500.

If it gets great reviews, I think it explodes opening weekend. The views and hype for that film are thru the roof.

$150 million at most between production and marketing. $300 million is the break event point (really it’s probably at $275-280 million). It was never going to be a huge money maker. Box office will give them a small profit, ancillary income will be more.

Probably cause it looks goofy as hell, and not in a good way.

Already $260m on a $100m budget. It's doing good.

Why would you think it would go over $500 million WW though? The demographic who knows him best were comic readers alive during World War 2, it's not a massive special effects extravaganza, and WB/DC hasn't earned the trust of the average movie goer.

Because superhero movies are very popular right now. I also expected it would do much better in China.

It's not a massive special effects driven movie and a ton of it's humor is dialogue driven so why would China love it?

It's reported budget has been anywhere from $85 million (The-Numbers) to $100 million (BoxOfficeMojo) so it's not going to need to make a mint to be successful.

I'll agree with those who think WB mad a mistake with it's release date sticking it between Captain Marvel and Endgame. Hell, it's lucky Dumbo isn't doing great TBH. IMO this should have been released somewhere in October to December considering the time frame the movie is set.

I didn't say they would love it. I said I expected better. Like 100 mil in China, and 200 mil domestic, would get it to 500. It's going to finish at about 400 mil, so to think it could've' finished over 500 isn't that much of a stretch.

$100 million in China for Shazam is really expecting a lot IMO.

Deadpool 2 made $42.4m in China for example.

Logan topped out at $105.9m and Wolverine is far better known over there.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 made $99.3m and that movie had a ton more special effects for audiences to look at.
