I with that shotgun was my cock.

If it was, you could call me Earnest Hemingway.

Just finished Rick Potion #9. This is insane. Morty is completely mind fricked. I'm completely mind fricked. I don't think I will ever watch another episode through the entire series without thinking that this is all in an alternate reality and that Summer, Beth, and what's his face are the only people really left alive. How do you fricking reconcile that in your head?

I need to just start a watch-through thread to catalog this.

I don't know what that means, but I want it!

Right? Why would they end season 3 on this note? Especially when compared to the great cliffhanger finales for both Season 1 & 2.

Yeah, no one is going to buy it and it does nothing for Rick's character. Should have ended the season with Tales from the Citadel.

It actually showed the power shift from Rick to Morty. Rick wanted to leave but couldn't leave his family. But ok.

It showed a lot about Rick's character. He's shown as practically a god. Solves Middle East conflict, kills somebody by them just touching him, so powerful he dominates the US government. Yet, can't control the one thing that matters to him, his family.

It's been a season all about choice. Rick, the smartest badass in all realities, chooses to be the low man on the family totem pole because he doesn't want to lose his family. He makes a choice to keep something that matters to him at cost of his ego. Fits the theme of the season, fits the growth we've seen in Rick and the entire family.

You might not like the dynamic we're left with, but it does make sense in the context of the season.

She is the most fricked up of all of them. Even in the Pilot, I was shocked at how Beth could allow Rick anywhere near her children.

The argument makes sense from a progression point of view given where the season started, with Rick in total control of the household due to Beth choosing him over Jerry and the season ending with that dynamic turned on its head.

Still doesn’t feel like as satisfying of a finale as the Rick Sanctum episode would have been had it been aired last. As it happened, the reveal from that ep was in the back of my mind for the entirety of the finale and I kept thinking they would follow up on it. Not so much.

That's a fair point. That would have been a hell of a finale.

I don't think it would have hit the right beat for the narrative of this season. Rick made the not exciting, hard work of putting his ego aside for his own happiness decision. It kind of missed the emtoional weight of that choice, unlike the season two ending where you really felt it. It's a flaw, but the finale did tie the third season arc together pretty well but didn't totally stick the landing.

I just got through watching. Wow. What a let down of a finale. Nothing was very deep this season. Rickshank
Redemption, The Ricklantis Mixup, and Vindicators 3 were the only episodes that I really liked.

Apparently Dan Harmon has stated that this wasn’t originally intended to be the finale but was converted into one when they realized they weren’t going to be doing a 14 episode season.

Frankly that makes sense considering most of the show comes off as “Bugs Bunny fricking with the opera singer for 20 minutes” with a Beth arc shoehorned in.

Yeah, a lot of it felt forced and sloppy, probably because they had to rewrite the end. In retrospect of knowing this, I think Harmon would have made Tales from the Citadel the finale.

More excuses. They could have easily put the evil morty episode as the finale and it would be been great and perfect for a finale.

Just lazy if that is how it really happened. Programming and sequence comes down from the makers of the show
