Oberyn looked the most impressive in the short time we saw him IMO - like the last person I'd want to come face-to-face with.

But with sword(s), Arthur Dayne by a mile.

Regarding the show--We've never really seen many head-to-head matches with the badasses.

I can only think of two really.

Jaime pretty much stalemated with Ned.

And Oberyn had the mountain beat. Advantage Oberyn.

We've seen Jon and Brienne whip the shite out of red shirts. Jon kicked the shite out of Ramsay but I wouldn't call him a top warrior. But Jon has faced the greatest odds via numbers of anyone we've seen on the show. That should count for something.

How do you not have Arthur Dayne there? It’s definitely him.

Areo Hotah was a beast in the books.

He died like a bitch in the show.

Arthur Dayne (with Dawn) - 1 (thanks to Dawn)
Barristan Selmy (younger) - 2A
Jamie Lannister (with 2 hands) - 2B

Another name he threw out was Loras Tyrell. But I think he might have meant best swordsmen. People like The Mountain might not be the best fighters but they have other attributes (like size and/or strength). But as we see, Oberyn with no armor took down the Mountain (at least til he got cocky).
