I was thinking the other day whilst re-watching The Last Kingdom how much visceral dislike that the Lady Aelswith character inspires and was wondering how other people view her - especially compared to other female foils? Throw some other examples out there if you like for the purpose of discussion, but I'm mainly thinking of passive aggressive underminer types.

I didn't mind Lady Aelswith previous seasons. She took up for Ultred a few times.

She is crazy this new Netflix season.

Skyler still sucks more.

Edt: She is absent of rational thought this season when she previously showed critical and rational thinking.

Lady Aelswith is the most irrational and despicable female in any TV show in season 3 imo. I've never wanted someone to just go away so badly. I don't even want to see something bad happen to her. Just get her off the screen. She sucks.

Yep.

She is also a heavy handed plot device in season 3. Which honestly makes little sense because she just kind of jumps the shark on handlings of Ultred compared to previous seasons.

They changed her character a little quickly.

They really did cast her perfectly, and even as irrational as she is you understand why Alfred values her opinion. He's a devout believer too and feels it's his duty to lead Wessex according to God's will. So he views many of the things we hate about her as a positive...until he's on his deathbed, then he realize he ain't got time for her bullshite anymore.

I don't think she did change as much as she saw Alfred as strong and wise enough to treat Uhtred like a tool but her son would be young and impressionable enough to treat him as an advisor, and since he's a heathen that'd be unacceptable.

We saw her change within minutes of season 3 opening. Alfred has always been week and yes it's a season about handing off to Edward(the boys name?). But it came before the seer told Alfred about not seeing summer and the death of Alfred sooner rather than later really hit home.

It was a little to sharp of a turn for my liking. It was a little to noticeable. She was after Ultred for digging up his wife, etc before Edward was really into the story.

It's nothing to be influenced by for the viewer to see.
