As bad as the last season was halfway through it’s run it was in the running for GOAT series ever. Although it didn’t stick the landing at all (and in fact pretty much crashed and burned) when looking at the first 7 seasons it still comes in 3rd for me behind sopranos and the wire just edging out deadwood. Everything else is a tier below imo.

I can't, in good faith, put it above Real Sex.

It is still easily in my top 5.

Even The Wire, which many believe to be the GOAT (myself included) ended poorly.

Plus you just can’t discount the cultural phenomenon that the show was/became.

This. A lot of shows have shat the bed worse or not even been given the chance to finish the story. We may not have loved the outcome, but the journey was too 5 all time TV experiences, not just on HBO.

Yeah, aging hippies fricking is always so hot.

GoT is #1 for me, but the ending really does kinda sour it.

HBO drama usually leaves me unsatisfied at the end. Like my Shreveport girlfriend in 2007.

Oz basically did it. Sopranos did it. Thrones did it.

I thought the Sopranos ending was fantastic.

Especially with all the foreshadowing from prior episodes.

People are split on it, I'm on the side where I wish it had been handled differently.

1st.
Sopranos 2nd.
The Wire sucked. Couldn’t even make through the entire 1st season.

#1 by far and anyone that disagrees is a retard. That series held more people on edge than anything I have experienced.

When the pissed offness about the last season wears off, it'll bubble back to the top in people's minds.

Definitely below Sopranos and Wire. Might hold #3 spot but I would have to think more about it.

I've been doing some re-watches to try to purge the final season from my mind and it is amazing how bad that final season was. It literally ruins earlier episodes. There have been so many moments that I loved the first go around but when I re-watch them now I just groan, roll my eyes and fast forward.

Just one example: there's a scene where Tyrion becomes Master of Coin and has to literally explain to Bronn how money works. Bronn, being the lowborn thug that he is, says if I want something I just kill the bastard and take it. Tyrion then explains how civilized people go to a bank, borrow money and then pay it back with interest or suffer consequences. And of course Bronn is like why not just not pay it back and kill them? Flash forward two years and it's "who better to manage the Realm's finances than Sir Bronn of the Blackwater, Lord of Highgarden.

There's moments like that in every episode now.

There is no better way to illustrate to me/the board how much of a brute you are than to claim the Wire is boring/sucks. You’re probably a huge Breaking Bad fan, aren’t you?

I won't say the Wire sucks, but in my opinion it wasn't great. It was good. I much rather BB over it by a mile.

I’ll rank it ahead of True Blood. If it wasn’t for S7-S8 I’d say it’s the GOAT TV series for me.

Can't wait for all these stupid girls named Khaleesi to find out their name comes from a young raped slave girl with murdered parents who fricked her nephew and then went insane and Holocausted an entire Town because she heard a bell ring.
