I feel like there hasn't been a quality sitcom created since 2016 ish.

Is it because it doesn't transition to streaming? All the money is going to serious TV? PC police killing comedy?

Ted Lasso maybe, but I'm not sure id consider that a traditional sitcom.

"Baskets" on FX was exceptionally good, if that meets the criteria.

The Good Place has a brilliant Season One. I tried Season two, and maybe I should give it another go, but didn’t make it through.

The network sitcom is mostly dead.

We are a far cry from the modern sitcom renaissance of Must See TV Thursday nights with The Office, Parks, Community, My Name is Earl, Scrubs, 30 Rock.

Mr Mayor was the only new sitcom I watched this season. It wasn't bad. Good enough to keep watching.

Definitely try it again. Whenever you think your have it figured out and think you know where the show is going, there's a curveball coming up next. Brilliantly written show.

He had one with Kal Penn that wasn't great, but was better than the other new shows it debuted with in 2019 I think. I was a little surprised when it got canceled after only like 4 episodes, simply because Schur was part of it.

Completely forgot about that one. Really liked it.

Binging the entirety of a 10 episode, 25 minute sitcom on a weekend is far too easy. And it doesn't help keep the show in the collective consciousness of potential fans.

You never know when anyone is going to pick up on it, so there isn't really much of a shared experience.

There were a few threads on here about it, but you had to search for them because without the weekly format people were in and out on it too quickly.

Thats what I'm thinking as well. If sitcoms aren't coming out across the year, then I think lose a lot of what makes them special. Like having holiday episodes come out in December and thanksgiving episodes and Sprig/summer vacations, etc.

Its a little different because they aren't 20 episode seasons, but I applaud HBO for holding their stance(for the most part) on releasing episodes once a week.

I almost mentioned that we just started Kim's Convenience and are enjoying it.

So I guess one answer to the question in the subject could be: Canada.

Sitcoms have morphed to the point where people categorize them as something else.

Agree to some degree, but still Letterkenny and Schitt's Creek both started in 2016

Check out Resident Alien. It's technically a comedy-drama, but we're enjoying the first season quite a bit.
