What we could have had with Tim Burton’s Batman 2?

The original idea for a sequel to Batman (1989).

The idea came so close to fruition that they had both Billy Dee Williams and Marlon Wayans inked to play Harvey Dent and Robin, respectively, and they were prepping a Robin suit for Wayans when at the last possible second, they threw out the script and wrote the movie that eventually became Batman Returns.

Allegedly, not only did Williams and Wayans receive their salaries for Batman Returns, they even receive residuals for Batman Forever, since it was in the contracts that they signed.

This sounds horrible, then I remember who played Robin the first time around.

So... probably not any worse than Chris O'Donnell.

It never got as close to happening as it did in 1992, but for Batman (1989) they threw around the idea of Kiefer Sutherland as Robin.

However, as Waters later described Robin as “the most worthless character in the world,” his and Burton’s attempt was half-hearted at best: Robin was a fully-grown Batmobile mechanic with a faded “R” on his jumpsuit uniform.

I think remember reading the script and thinking that it was that it was more of a direct continuation of the first Batman but it also went off the rails.

No wonder we can't get a decent Robin on film.

There’s already been a significant re-appraisal of the Adam West TV show, but it bears repeating that it is a decent and faithful representation of Golden Age era Batman and Robin. (Batman TAS is the equivalent best representation of Bronze Era Batman and Robin.)

Based on his plans for a Superman movie, I don’t think we needed to see what an extended Burton universe would look like

Would love a movie with an aging Batman and Nightwing both working the same case independently, sparring over crime fighting "turf" told against a story of them early in their partnership (not Robin's origin story).

I agree with all of this.

I actually kinda like Batman returns. It’s head and shoulders above the two that followed it, but not as good as the original.

I don't care who it was, nobody was going to do well with the shite scripts from Forever and Batman and Robin.

Batman Returns was a good movie and almost as good as the first. Batman And Robin and Batman Forever were abominations.

I have heard stories that promotional images exist of Wayans in the suit.
