Snipe Hunt is one of my all time favorites. My dad told me about snipe hunts when I was a kid so I loved that one.

Rebecca definitely became a bit of a caricature of her original character.

I didn't like the ending. Sam alone in a bar. He says he is the luckiest man alive but it seemed very sad and lonely.

Frasier, this is so unlike you.

Frasier:
No, but it's what guys do, darling… we screw each other to the wall. Boy, it's great to be one of the gang, I'll tell you.

Norm tells him he’s always going to be faithful to his one true love (the bar). Then Sam realizes that Cheers is always there for him and he’s lucky to have it.

In the pilot, the bar patrons are discussing the sweatiest movie. Cliff, whose first lines ever, says 'Body Heat'. Camera cuts to Sam Malone played by Ted Danson who is in the movie Body Heat. Body Heat came out the previous year.

Great follow-up to that scene, when Diane introduces Frasier to the bar. She's trying to belittle the bar patrons by telling Frasier that they pass the time with mindless arguments like, "Sweatiest Movie", and Frasier answers in a confident tone, "Cool Hand Luke!" (IIRC) The barflies give their approval, Diane rolls her eyes, etc.

Not Frasier apparently, but here is the scene: LINK.

I had a hatred for Diane (mostly because she reminded me of an old girlfriend) but loved the dynamic.

Agree. Couldn't fricking stand Diane...but that's also why you're tuning in. Every great show has to have that one character you hate and the writers really piled it on with Diane, making Carla hate her - Sam hate but desire her, nobody else in the bar really liked her because she thought she was better than everyone else and a pseudo-intellectual.

I just remember thinking as a kid, why the frick does she work there?

I thought the show dragged out the long seduction WAY too long.

Moonlighting did the same fricking thing. Love/hate, love/hate...flirting nonsense for years. It gets old.

I wasn't sad to see Diane leave honestly.

Frasier is the best character on the show imo.

Frasier was the best character on television for about 20 years with the only real competitors being Phil Hartman's Bill McNeal, DHP's Niles Crane and, maybe, Alexander's George Costanza.

I answered a Jeopardy question about a country on the Adriatic the other day. Of course, it was Albania. My wife knew exactly how I derived the answer.

Which is sad when everyone else has left to go home to their loved ones.

Top 5 all time for me

Growing up in lake Charles I could only get few channels in my bedroom on the rabbit ears and they would play reruns of Cheers and Night Court and Married with Children

Loved them all

There was a terrific amount of hype built up for the finale. Rumor in the media was that President Clinton was going to make a cameo appearance - in fact it may be that he was the one at the door when Sam said, "I'm sorry, the bar is closed" - but apparently it either didn't work out or the producers thought better of it. I'm glad they didn't go through with it, as it would have taken away from the moment.

Reading this thread reminded me of this great article that came out the week of the final episode.

I had been waiting for years to apply that knowledge...I can't believe Jeopardy threw me a hanging slow curve, right above the plate...

Apparently the guy who’s at the door is an NBC exec who wanted to keep the show going without Sam. He wanted it so bad, the writers let him be the guy knocking on the door and getting rejected because that’s how he felt in real life. He’s also allegedly crying but you can’t see it because of the lighting.

Cheers is definitely top 5 GOAT. I am probably in the minority with this, but I disliked Carla more than I disliked Dianne. My least favorite episodes were when they introduced Carla’s personal life into the show either with her kids or when she married the hockey player (Eddie?). Her character was just not interesting enough to devote those storylines to her. Like Norm and Cliff, she was there to support the other characters and it was a big miss when they tried to elevate her to a main character.
