Watching the Wire again

It’s the greatest tv show I ever watched. It gets better the next time around especially with season 2. The mcnullty and bunk drunk scenes are classic. I wouldn’t say I didn’t like season 2 the first time I watched it. It just caught me off guard after season one but after I finished the series for the first time season 2 made so much sense and complemented the brilliance of this show all together. The 2nd time around I loved season 2.

I think the only thing that holds it back is Season 5 - but I and many others on this board agree it is one of the best shows of all time. Period.
I learned about the show from this board or else I would likely have had no idea.

Yeah, that's crazy.
I know I'm in the minority by having 2 so high, but every Wire fan should hate Season 5 (except the finale).

Damn. I feel like I read the original threads. Season 5 got that much hate on here? I must have missed something
The only seasons I changed were 1,3. I originally had 3 better then 1.

5 was the worst but still good aside from the fake serial killer storyline.

this and the Sopranos are the two shows I watch annually (sometimes semi-annually) and always enjoy and pick up new things I hadn't noticed before. I will say when I rewatch the Wire I always expect things to change, like Slim Charles making the move without Avon's say so at the Rim shop, Omar popping Marlo when he had the chance

Season 2 is very good. Season 5 was garbage and seemed very forced. The entire kids storyline throughout the series was a downfall for me

I actually just started watching the Wire for the first time recently; it's pretty much the only highly touted series I haven't seen. I'm almost done with season 1 and I love it. I can't explain why I love it so much but I find myself itching to watch the next episode as soon as I finish one. The characters and acting are awesome and makes the show almost feel like a camera is just following real people around rather than a scripted show.

I don't hate it, i do rank it last, it veered from the gritty realism that i think made the earlier seasons, especially S1 and the message Simon was trying to get across (the newspaper missed all the big stories) doesn't quite work. But it still has its moment and the finale nails it

Then why did you rate it last? Season 2 is great and a necessary part of the show. It addresses the problem from all perspectives and drugs have to get into Baltimore somehow.

exactly. been arguing this for years. same thing with Omar and his name/rep.
i figured the whole direct conflict between the 2 "name" statements would have a much larger consensus, but it's always been one of the major condensed themes of the show.

The best thing about The Wire is the ad libs in the background.
Ex: Marlo shoots Davona. Somebody in the background: “Aye..somebody just got shot”
