Open Range with Costner and Duvall is pretty epic, too. Pretty damn brutal.

Yeah that's pretty good as well.

It set the standard for Westerns for a long time and originated a lot of things we take for granted from the genre today.

On top of that one of the greatest musical scores ever written. Utterly brilliant and instantly recognizable.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - The Danish National Symphony Orchestra (Live)

My favorite western of all time is Lonesome Dove, but yeah - the Eastwood movies mentioned in this thread are all excellent. Josey Wales, in particular I would put among the best movies in any genre.

All the best Eastwood Western have already been mentioned, but if you're going on a Western binge, add Once Upon a Time in the West and The Wild Bunch to your list.

When you do watch Outlaw Josey Wales, here’s a few thoughts for consideration: It’s been said that it was the first movie to portray Native Americans in a positive light. This was the late 70s. The movie has intriguing themes regarding toleration, self-reflection, and forgiveness. Despite all that, this movie could not be made today. It’s all interesting to think about.

Open Range is outstanding. If you have not seen it, you must watch it.

And yes, so is Lonesome Dove.

But neither are Clint related.

Unforgiven is Eastwood at his best as a director. Gene Hackman (academy award), as Little Bill, Richard Harris as English Bob, Saul Rubinek, Francis Fisher, and Morgan Freeman as Ned, each and other supporting characters offer up Gritty, honest and threadbare emotional performances. The greatest western ever made.

And this from someone who loves TOJW above all other westerns.

The good "most interesting man in the world" was in Hang Em High.

There were 2 guys that looked alike and some pics have the wrong guy being him but he was in it one way or the other.

Unforgiven, while being great, is the most overrated western of all time.

Should I start the downvotes myself?

No, because i agree with you.

So was the Skipper.

ETA: And Ed Begley (Senior), Big Ben Johnson, Bruce Dern, Dennis Hopper and Pat Hingle - helluva cast.
