I forgot how good it was. And enjoyed how evenly it portrayed all of the different characters and factions. It didn't particularly skew towards one side worse than the other. I was actually sort of surprised when they had the scene with the NAACP basically trying to get a local pastor to shake down a church.

Y'alls thoughts on the movie?

Haven't seen it in a few years, but I wasn't all that impressed with it when I watched it.

I think the only Grisham books that I really liked the movie adaptations were The Firm, The Client, and The Rainmaker.

Pelican Brief and A Time To Kill were just okay, but those were also my 2 favorite of his books so maybe my expectations were higher. I don't know.

The Firm deviated from the novel so much - particularly the ending - that they are rightly considered two different stories. Having said that, the cast just nailed every point in The Firm - it is not only my favorite Grisham adaptation, it's one of my favorite legal films, period.

It's entertaining but I've lived through the heat of the South all my life and 1.) we've got fricking A/C down here and 2.) when we sweat, we don't quite glisten the attractive way everyone seems to in this movie.

I thought it was dumb when they made the lightning flash after Carl Lee yelled "Yeah they deserve to die and I hope they burn in Hell!"

That's a cliche cinematic device when something "bad" just happened, but it really made the insanity defense more plausible. He legitimately looked bats when he said it and at least some jurors were looking for an excuse to walk him.

Great cast and I would marry 1997 Sandra Bullock.

Why the hell did Ashley Judd have to turn out to be such a bitch. She had so much potential......

I was young when this movie came out, and even as a kid, I remember thinking the same thing.

Whenever I see movies about the south set in older times, I always think of how every building they're in probably doesn't have A/C yet and I wonder how people survived.

One of the rare times where the movie's deviations from the book actually worked out pretty well.

Yeah - I definitely prefer the film ending to the novel. Elegant. Morally ambiguous, yet ethically intact.

Have your A/C go out in warm weather and you get really creative. I had a blown capacitor and something else wrong back in May, and my house was approaching 85 during the day and only got down to 75 at night. Of course it happened on a Sunday and a part had to be ordered on Monday. Those $12 oscillating fans at WalMart can move some air though. Thankfully I have two units and the upstairs was cool. If that happened in August, we would roast.

It wasn't the first time I'd seen it, but they showed this movie on a return flight from Greece I was on in the 90's and i remember thinking it was a great way to get visitors from Europe ready for race relations in America, or not.
