Was the mid 90s the best era for kids movies?
Growing up at that time was awesome and especially with kids movies. I’m not talking about cartoons but movies you wish you and your friends can do together. We had mighty ducks, little giants, sandlot, major payne, heavyweights, and jack. Even with tv shows like boy meets world, all that, are you afraid of the dark, Pete and Pete, and salute your shorts.
Having a 8 year old I wish they made movies like those days instead of everything animated cartoons. What they have to offer now that he watches I do like game shakers and bunk’d.

Also had Home Alone, Cool Runnings, Rookie of the Year, The Big Green, Richie Rich, Blank Check, Angels in the Outfield, Little Big League

Outside of Disney/Pixar, do they even make movies like those anymore?

The sooner we can admit that the 80s into the early 90s were the GOAT on everything, the better it’ll be

It’s when technology, video games, production quality on everything just took off, and us 80s kids got to soak it all in.

Makes me want to go kill a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and watch Thundercats just thinking about it.

re: Was the mid 90s the best era for kids movies?
I was born in the mid 90s but came of age in the 2000s so those movies and things were still fresh in everyone’s subconscious so I got to enjoy all of those movies and the end of the analog age as well as experience the acceleration given to us by the late beginning of the digital age (iPhone, high speed internet, online gaming, etc..). Suck it!

Eta: I credit expediting at least a little bit of analog technology still in every day life as a reason why a lot more people in my generation turned out to be not as shitty as people even born 5ish years later who basically don’t remember any of it. I still think about the pain (and beneficial experience) of dial up internet and rewinding the VHS tapes to this day when I enjoy modern conveniences such as steaming and gigablast internet.

The Sandlot is better than the Goonies and I will fight anyone and everyone on that until the day I die.

Mid-80s to mid-90s were a great time for kids in dramatic films too. And not like wussy kids who cry all the time. Something that made you feel mature for watching it.

Stand By Me
The Client
Searching for Bobby Fischer
Free Willy

The movies seemed better because we watched them so many times. You would have a tape and watch them over and over. Or everytime a rerun was on we would watch. We would watch bad movies till we liked them.

Now with all the streaming/watching options it is hard to watch a movie 50 times. So we never watch a movie till we memorize it and live it even if it is bad.

Because there were young actors that could actually act and not just stand in front of a green screen reading cue cards like goddamn Walter Cronkite

I think the explosion of content specifically for children meant that there would naturally be a lot of cream that could rise to the crop.

Plus we had so much opportunity to watch and rewatch movies over again. Now I have permanent nostalgia goggles for movies like Earnest Goes to Camp and Camp Nowhere that probably suck dick but I watched them 20+ times so I can't forget how so felt about them then.
