Just saw this for the first time, been going through movies with Jonah Hill recently. Mother fricker is built like humpty dumpty in this one. Pretty solid film. The laugh is hilarious. Liked the ending, honestly didn't like Bradley Cooper in that role. I also wanted to run through a brick wall at the Fortunate Son scene

I thought so. I watch it whenever it comes on. Based on a true story and a few books are worth reading if you like the story. Jared Leto doing a line of coke in the shape of Ukraine was a fun scene.

Lord of War > War Dogs

Speaking of Bradley Cooper, He doesn't seem to do a whole lot of work. Is this his choice, or is it something else?

Heard he's a douchebag in real life, but don't know if that's real or internet gossip. Either way I usually enjoy his roles.

That made it even better, with the Jonah "Williams" connection at the end

He’s got two major films in development or post production that likely would’ve come out in 2020 if not for Covid

He’s making a movie with Paul Thomas Anderson and another with Guillermo del Toro.

He’s basically on a Leo plan right now. Do 1-2 prestige films with the top film makers a year and in between that bang models and make bank financing other movies (he was a producer on the Joker). Not to mention he gets those big marvel checks for doing voice work

Lord of War and War Dogs are both very good movies.

Lord of War is more serious and goes into the broader international political aspect more than War Dogs.

However, despite being the lighter film, War Dogs takes fewer creative liberties. The Bradley Cooper character is Swiss but otherwise the Jonah Hill and Miles Teller characters are pretty on point in terms of their behavior and what they actually did.

The biggest differences are honestly that they don’t look like the actors, which I don’t consider a big deal at all since none of us knew what they looked like beforehand.

The Teller character is the same physique but has a shaved head and Jonah Hill’s character was actually thin IRL before gaining a good bit of weight after getting arrested.

Lord of War on the other hand totally makes up its lead. The reality of the situation internationally is likely accurate but there is no Ukrainian-American guy who grew up in New York who became the biggest arms dealer.

There is a Ukrainian guy who grew up in Tajikistan and was formerly a Russian soldier but I don’t think that would be as sympathetic character for US audiences. And the whole Jared Leto character is made up.

It’s a great movie though.

Eta: The timeline in Lord of War is also off because the real life character was barely a teenager when the Nicolas Cage character starts his career in his mid 20s.

I believe he’s supposed to be a composite of multiple famous gun dealers.

There’s one Ukraine guy that makes up like 75 percent of the story and then a bunch of other guys and stories they used to make a better narrative structure

Watched War Dogs last night based on this thread and enjoyed it. Had no idea it was based on a true story.

If you like that genre then do yourself a favor and watch The Night Manager with Hug Laurie as an international gun runner. Fantastic series.
